Job description

The Role: Director of Building Envelope
Location: Warren, NJ
SUMMARY
We are seeking a motivated Director of Building Envelope Project Engineer with a strong interest in investigation, repair, and rehabilitation of existing buildings. The position focuses on roofing, façade, structural, and balcony/deck rehabilitation projects, primarily within the multifamily sector.
The engineer will provide technical evaluations, structural & envelope assessments, design support, and construction-phase engineering oversight. Depending on experience, candidates may assist in investigation, design development, structural/envelope detailing, report writing, and construction administration.
Estimated salary range for this position is $135,000 to $180,000. The salary listed is an estimate and not guaranteed. The salary offered will vary based on experience, education, skills, abilities, and certifications/license if applicable
Primary Responsibilities
General Engineering / Project Support
  • Perform engineering evaluations of building envelope and structural systems, including roofs, façade components, balconies, decks, and related structural elements.
  • Prepare technical reports summarizing existing conditions and recommended repair strategies.
  • Assist with development of repair drawings, details, and specifications, with oversight from senior engineers.
  • Prepare written correspondence to clients, contractors, and code officials.
  • Manage and maintain organized technical records, drawings, test data, field photos, and project documentation.
  • Review project scopes, budgets, and schedules with supervising engineers to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Assist in construction administration activities-including reviewing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contractor payment applications.
Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and technical completeness.
  • Review contractor submittals, change orders, schedules, and payment applications as directed.
  • Assist in troubleshooting construction issues with contractors based on engineering judgment

Field Responsibilities
  • Conduct on-site engineering evaluations of roofs, façades, balconies, decks, structural framing, waterproofing systems, and building envelope components.
  • Perform field testing and documentation (moisture testing, probes, level checks, structural observations, etc.).
  • Prepare detailed field sketches, measurements, and photographic documentation.
  • Observe repair work in progress to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Communicate observed deficiencies and corrective recommendations to senior engineers and project managers.
  • Work on multiple field projects involving roofing, cladding, waterproofing, decks, balconies, and structural rehabilitation.

Client Relations & Business Development
  • Attend client meetings with senior personnel, document meeting minutes and follow-up items.
  • Participate in discussions on scope, budget, and technical approach.
  • Represent The Falcon Group at technical seminars, networking events, continuing education sessions, and industry meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position currently has supervisory duties but may evolve based on growth and performance.
Qualifications
Licenses & Certifications
  • A Professional Engineering (PE) or a Registered Architect (RA) is needed.
  • Building envelope certifications (IIBEC: RRO, RRC, RWC) or ICC certifications are a plus.
  • OSHA-10 preferred.
  • Valid United States Driver's License required, as this position requires travel to and from client sites.
Experience
  • Minimum of 10years of experience with an engineering consulting firm, building envelope firm, structural engineering practice, or construction industry performing structural/envelope-related work.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
  • Master's degree is a plus but not required.

Skills & Additional Requirements
  • Understanding of construction plans, technical specifications, and industry standards.
  • Ability to identify typical structural defects, building envelope failures, moisture intrusion mechanisms, and waterproofing deficiencies.
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of building codes, including IBC, IRC, and structural standards.
  • Professional, organized, and capable of fieldwork including ladders, attics, roofs, and difficult access areas.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineers, architects, and construction professionals.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterSpec or technical specification writing preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Comfortable using ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and roof access equipment.
  • Ability to perform site work in extreme temperatures, humidity, and adverse weather.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 10 stories and in confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces).
  • Significant standing/walking on uneven or challenging terrain.
