Job description

Phoenix Ops Group is seeking qualified candidates for mission-oriented cloud, data, and AI-enabling technology work. Multiple levels may be considered based on experience, including mid-level and senior candidates. We are seeking a hands-on Cloud Platform Engineer to support cloud platform engineering, DevSecOps practices, CI/CD implementation, deployment, configuration, testing, and operational support.
This role is focused on helping deploy, configure, test, secure, and operationalize integrated cloud-based capabilities in secure or mission-oriented environments that support advanced analytics, automation, and AI-enabled mission capabilities. Candidates should be comfortable working across cloud platforms, automation, DevSecOps pipelines, containerized environments, infrastructure-as-code, application integration, and operational readiness activities.
Experience with AWS and Databricks environments is highly desired.
Responsibilities
  • Support cloud platform engineering, deployment, configuration, and testing activities.
  • Build, maintain, or support CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable platforms.
  • Support DevOps and DevSecOps practices across development, test, and operational environments.
  • Assist with deployment automation, environment configuration, and release support.
  • Support containerized and distributed environments using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, or similar technologies.
  • Implement or maintain infrastructure-as-code, automation, and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or comparable platforms.
  • Install, configure, harden, and troubleshoot Linux-based and cloud-based infrastructure services.
  • Work with data engineers, application teams, security teams, and integration teams to move capabilities into operational use.
  • Troubleshoot cloud platform, deployment, pipeline, configuration, networking, and integration issues.
  • Support monitoring, logging, observability, reliability, scalability, and performance optimization activities.
  • Support testing and validation of integrated cloud, data, and application capabilities.
  • Help ensure solutions are implemented in a secure, repeatable, resilient, and mission-ready manner.
  • Support secure configuration, patching, vulnerability management, and operational sustainment activities.
  • Document deployment processes, environment dependencies, architecture considerations, configuration steps, and operational procedures.
  • Support evaluation of software dependencies, licensing considerations, and supply chain security risks where applicable.

Required Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, DevSecOps, or platform operations.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipeline implementation, deployment automation, or release support using GitLab CI/CD or similar tools.
  • Experience with cloud environment configuration, testing, troubleshooting, or operational support.
  • Experience administering, configuring, or troubleshooting Linux-based systems.
  • Familiarity with secure software delivery practices and integrated development environments.
  • Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, automation, or infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Ability to work across platform, application, data, security, and mission teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to support secure or mission-oriented environments.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS cloud services and deployment patterns.
  • Familiarity with Databricks or comparable cloud data platform environments.
  • Experience with GitLab, GitLab CI/CD, or comparable source control and DevSecOps platforms.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, or similar container and orchestration technologies.
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or similar infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, observability, and operational troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience supporting networking, identity, security, firewalls, virtualization, or distributed system environments.
  • Experience with system hardening, vulnerability management, patching, and secure configuration practices.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based data, API, or application integration efforts.
  • Familiarity with supply chain security, software dependency evaluation, or secure infrastructure design principles.
  • Experience supporting federal, defense, intelligence, or other mission-oriented environments.
  • AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, DevOps Engineer, or comparable cloud certifications are a plus.
  • Active or eligible security clearance preferred, if applicable.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hands-on cloud/platform engineer who can help get integrated capabilities deployed, configured, tested, secured, and ready for operational use. This role is distinct from a traditional system architect or requirements-focused systems engineer; the emphasis is on practical cloud engineering, automation, DevSecOps, platform reliability, and delivery of operational capabilities.
