Material Handler - Receiving Dept.
Creative Plastics - Dalton, GA
Monday - Friday
7:00am- 3:30pm
Job Summary: Creative Plastics is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Material Handler (Forklift Operator) for our receiving department. This position is responsible for moving goods safely and efficiently within the warehouse and production areas. The Material Handler will operate forklifts and other equipment to load, unload, and organize products, ensuring that inventory is effectively managed and that goods are accurately positioned. Attention to detail is critical to prevent damage to products and ensure that they are stored and delivered correctly.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Load and unload goods within the production and warehouse areas, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of materials.
  • Operate forklifts and other machinery to move materials to designated locations, ensuring accurate placement, and minimizing damage to goods.
  • Maintain and track inventory by performing product counts, weighing, tagging, and recording products to ensure accuracy and prevent discrepancies.
  • Inspect forklifts and material handling equipment before use to ensure they are in safe and working condition. Report any issues to management.
  • Wrap loads using a shrink wrapper as required, ensuring proper packaging before goods are moved or shipped.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods from delivery trucks, ensuring proper handling and organization of shipments.
  • Perform data entry tasks as needed, including updating inventory records and preparing Bill of Ladings for outgoing shipments.
  • Use handheld barcode scanners to track and update inventory, ensuring efficient and accurate management of goods.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols, equipment usage, and operational procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the smooth operation of the warehouse and production areas.

Requirements:
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of material handling equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to accurately track inventory and materials.
  • Ability to perform data entry tasks and familiarity with using handheld barcode scanners.
  • Utilize various equipment as needed to perform duties such as a tape dispenser, hand trucks, pallets jacks.
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
  • Ability to work in a variety of roles.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to learn how to effectively use databases systems such as ERP's.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to utilize the tact and diplomacy required to foster a team environment while keeping projects on schedule and budget.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, deadline driven environment, as well as a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Supervision Received:
Works with minimal supervision. Issues and concerns need to be communicated to supervisor.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Previous Forklift experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting: Occasionally raises objects from a lower to a higher position or moves objects horizontally from position-to position. Weight is usually less than 50 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Occasionally uses upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Weight is usually less than 50 lbs.
  • Reaching: Extends hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Weight is usually less than 50 lbs.
  • Stooping: Bends body downward and forward at the waist. Weight is usually less than 50 lbs.
  • Standing: Standing for moderate levels of time. Infrequently more than 30 minutes at a time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks. In frequently more than 30 minutes at a time.

Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.
