POSITION PURPOSE
The Laboratory Manager at Bayport Laboratories will be responsible for leading a team of scientists and technicians in the development of new products, improving existing formulations, in- process testing and ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
• Manage all aspects of the cosmetic research and development laboratory, including personnel, equipment, and resources.
• Lead and mentor a team of scientists, chemists and technicians, providing guidance and support in the development of new formulations and processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, manufacturing, engineering and regulatory affairs, to ensure alignment and successful product launches.
• Formulate color cosmetics, skin and hair care products from scratch and adjust current ones based on customer feedback and standard processes.
• Plan and prioritize laboratory activities to meet project timelines and business objectives.
• Oversee the procurement of raw materials and laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate inventory levels and cost-effective purchasing.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory operations, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to foster professional growth and development.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to inform decision-making and maintain competitiveness.
• Represent the laboratory in internal meetings, client interactions, and industry conferences as needed.
• May be involved in troubleshooting of quality issues.
• Lead, motivate, train and develop the laboratory team, ensuring they are fully engaged in a safe working environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Cosmetic Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
• Familiarity with regulatory standards including cGMP, FDA, and ISO 22716 (2007)
• Strong knowledge of cosmetic formulation principles, raw materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques, equipment operation, and data analysis.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience as Laboratory Manager in Cosmetics research and development Laboratory.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to lead and motivate employees to achieve goals
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
