Job description

Bright Horizons is a day treatment program for students with emotional and behavioral problems that severely affect their learning or that of others. The program focuses on replacing misbehaviors and teaching coping strategies while providing academics in a therapeutic environment. The mission of Bright Horizons is to instill in students a cooperative and positive attitude that encourages them to make good choices and to become productive members of their community.

The counselor is a member of the school team whose role is essentially one of working with the individual student and with groups, helping to identify strengths and weaknesses as they relate to the environment—home, school, and community. They are also a part of a support system for teachers. The responsibility of the counselor involves counseling, consulting, and coordinating school life of the student, helping them overcome problems that impede learning, and to assist them in making viable educational, occupational, and life plans.


Hours:

This is a part-time position, working 25 hours per week during the school year.


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Desire and ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational and emotional goals.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
  • Computer Skills (Google/Microsoft Suite).

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Guidance, Education, or Social Work (or similar field)
  • Seeking Licensed Counselor/Therapist.
  • Experience working with students with Emotional Disabilities is preferred.
