Job description

Quality Engineer (2)

About the Company:

An exciting new opportunity has become available with EuropTec USA, LLC, a U.S. glass fabricator with a long history supplying glass to the appliance market under its previous names of Marsco Manufacturing and Engineered Glass Products. Due to an acquisition in 2022, EuropTec USA now has the resources and backing of the Glas Trösch Group, a family-owned glass company based in Switzerland with $2BN in revenue and 6000 employees worldwide. With two manufacturing facilities and a warehouse on the south side of Chicago, EuropTec USA provides a wide variety of products for the appliance (oven doors and microwave ovens) and lighting markets. It is now poised to leverage its relationship with Glas Trösch to enter the rail market by providing glass and frame assemblies.

Job Summary

We are seeking two motivated Quality Engineers with 3–5 years of experience to support our glass manufacturing operations, with a primary focus on the appliance segment. These roles will drive process excellence, ensure compliance with key industry standards, and contribute to yield improvement and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidates will be hands-on, data-driven, and experienced in manufacturing environments—prior exposure to automotive or appliance industries is a strong plus. They will play a key role in maintaining high-quality glass products through audits, continuous improvement initiatives, PPAP processes, and effective complaint resolution.

Core Objectives:

  • Conduct thorough process audits across manufacturing lines to identify non-conformances, ensure adherence to procedures, and verify compliance with ISO 9001, ANSI Z97.1 (safety glazing materials), ASTM standards, and internal quality requirements.
  • Lead continuous improvement and yield improvement projects using root cause analysis, Lean principles, and statistical tools to reduce defects, scrap, and process variability in glass production.
  • Manage PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) submissions and approvals for new or revised products, including preparation of documentation, control plans, and capability studies.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints promptly, performing root cause analysis, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and communicating updates to stakeholders.
  • Analyze production and quality data using statistical methods to monitor key metrics, identify trends, and recommend process optimizations.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to integrate quality requirements into daily operations and new product introductions.
  • Support supplier quality activities as needed, including audits and performance monitoring.
  • Participate in internal audits, management reviews, and preparation for external certification audits.
  • Travel domestically up to 25% to support quality initiatives at customer/supplier sites.

Requirements

Core

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment; experience in automotive or appliance industries is highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems; familiarity with ANSI Z97.1, ASTM standards (e.g., for glass testing and performance), and other relevant glass/appliance standards.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from ASQ or similar certification is a plus.
  • Proficiency in PPAP tools and processes (e.g., control plans, FMEA, MSA, capability studies).
  • Advanced skills in Minitab (or similar statistical software) for data analysis, SPC, and capability studies.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
  • Experience with Infor MRP system (or similar ERP) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • On-site work and travel up to 25% domestically.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience in glass manufacturing or related processes (e.g., tempering, coating, or fabrication).
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma methodologies and tools for yield improvement.
  • Familiarity with customer quality requirements in the appliance sector.

Personality Traits:

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. They need to have a strong manufacturing background.
