Job description

General Function

The Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) will be primarily responsible for performing screenings, assessing patient condition, and designing therapy and treatment plans to help the patient develop necessary speech skills.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

At minimum has a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

Must have a valid state license or certification.

Experience working with various age groups is preferred, not required.

Is proficient with computers, especially patient and healthcare databases.

Is attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Diagnoses, treats, and prevents speech, language, and swallowing disorders

Creates treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of patients.

Performs screenings to detect voice or speech disorders.

Educates patients and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events.

Keeps detailed records relating to patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress.

Reports progress and status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, teachers, or medical professionals.

Provides aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Provides augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders.

Works with people who don't have speech, language, or swallowing disorders, but want to learn how to communicate more effectively (e.g., work on accent modification or other forms of communication enhancement).

Working Conditions

The work environment includes the clinic and patient homes.

Some lifting and physical exertion may be required.

Flexibility in work hours may be necessary to accommodate patient needs (evenings hours 3pm-7:30pm, Saturdays if needed).

Ability to efficiently write and communicate verbally as part of a healthcare team.

Ability to work supportively with other professionals and staff.

Skills to meet strength and lifting requirements.
