Fresher In information

What does a fresher in mean in a job context?

A 'Fresher In' refers to a person who is new to a particular field, industry, or job role and typically has little to no prior professional experience. The term 'fresher' is commonly used in countries like India to describe recent graduates or those entering the workforce for the first time. Employers often have specific positions or training programs designed for freshers to help them gain practical skills and adapt to workplace environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fresher in the IT industry, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fresher in the IT industry, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and often a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with coding languages like Java, Python, or C++, and exposure to tools such as Git and basic database systems, are typically expected. Eagerness to learn, adaptability, and strong communication skills help freshers integrate into teams and pick up new technologies quickly. These qualities are crucial for building a successful foundation and progressing in the dynamic, ever-evolving IT sector.

What types of projects or tasks can a fresher expect to work on during their initial months?

As a Fresher, you will typically start with foundational tasks that help you learn the company’s processes and tools. This may include assisting with data entry, shadowing experienced team members, or working on small components of larger projects. Over time, you’ll be given more responsibility, such as handling client communications, contributing to team meetings, or managing parts of a project independently. The goal is to gradually build your confidence and skill set while ensuring you have proper guidance and support from your team.

Job description

About Us

At FreshDirect, we are reinventing the grocery experience.

Since day one, our mission has been simple: bring the best, freshest food directly from the farm to people's homes - faster, fresher, and smarter than anyone else.

We're not just a food company. We're a technology-powered, customer-obsessed team building one of the most innovative end-to-end food supply chains in the industry. From proprietary routing systems to our state-of-the-art fulfillment center, every part of our business is designed to deliver unmatched quality, convenience, and care.

We partner directly with farmers, fishermen, and artisans to source the highest quality ingredients - then use smart data, automation, and logistics to deliver them at peak freshness.

It's grocery shopping reimagined - and we're just getting started.

If you're passionate about innovation, care deeply about what people eat, and want to help build the future of food, we'd love to meet you.

The Role

FreshDirect is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor to support Transportation operations and enhance workplace safety programs across the organization. This role will serve as the primary point of contact and liaison for all DOT compliance and Drug & Alcohol Safety Program administration, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The EHS Supervisor will partner closely with Transportation, Operations, Human Resources, and third-party vendors to maintain a strong culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. This position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and play a critical role in supporting the safety and compliance of FreshDirect's transportation workforce.

What You'll Do

Transportation Safety & Compliance

  • Support and oversee transportation-related Environmental Health & Safety initiatives and compliance programs.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments for transportation and fleet operations.
  • Investigate vehicle incidents, workplace injuries, near misses, and safety concerns; identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Transportation leadership to drive safety accountability and proactive risk reduction initiatives.
  • Assist with developing and delivering safety trainings, toolbox talks, and compliance education programs.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation.

DOT Compliance & Drug and Alcohol Program Administration

  • Serve as the primary liaison and administrator for FreshDirect's DOT and Drug & Alcohol Safety Programs.
  • Administer DOT Drug & Alcohol testing programs, including pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.
  • Coordinate with third-party administrators, collection sites, Medical Review Officers (MROs), SAP providers, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT/FMCSA regulations and company policies related to driver qualification and transportation safety.
  • Maintain confidential DOT and Drug & Alcohol program records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor driver qualification files, CDL compliance, medical certifications, and license status requirements.
  • Support DOT audits, inspections, reporting, and corrective action plans.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers regarding DOT and Drug & Alcohol compliance procedures and best practices.

What You'll Bring

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Transportation Safety, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, DOT compliance, transportation safety, or regulatory compliance roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and Drug & Alcohol testing regulations.
  • Experience administering DOT Drug & Alcohol programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience within transportation, logistics, distribution, warehouse, or fleet operations environments preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety/compliance management systems.
  • OSHA 30 certification and/or DOT compliance certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk warehouse, transportation, and operational floors for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying operational conditions, including warehouse and outdoor transportation environments as needed.

Work Environment

This position operates in a combination of office, warehouse, and transportation environments and may require flexibility in schedule to support operational and compliance needs, including occasional early morning, evening, or weekend support.
