What is a fresh produce job?

Fresh produce jobs involve working with fruits and vegetables, typically in roles such as harvesting, packing, sorting, quality control, and sales. These positions may be found on farms, in grocery stores, at distribution centers, or in food markets. Employees in fresh produce jobs often handle, inspect, and prepare produce for shipment or sale, ensuring products meet quality and safety standards. The work can be physically demanding and may require knowledge of food safety and handling regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fresh produce associate?

Employees in fresh produce departments often face challenges such as maintaining the freshness and quality of fruits and vegetables, managing inventory to minimize waste, and handling physically demanding tasks like lifting and stocking. To address these, staff are trained in proper product rotation, safe handling procedures, and effective communication with team members to ensure shelves are well-stocked and attractive to customers.
