Job description

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in leading the daily operations of the produce department. This role ensures fresh, high-quality products, strong merchandising execution, and excellent customer service while helping manage inventory, shrink, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

  • Assist in overseeing daily produce operations, including stocking, rotation, and display maintenance
  • Ensure all products meet quality, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Maintain full, clean, and visually appealing wet rack and dry tables
  • Support execution of ad displays, seasonal sets, and promotional programs

Inventory & Ordering

  • Assist with ordering produce to maintain proper in-stock levels and minimize shrink
  • Monitor inventory movement and adjust ordering based on sales trends
  • Ensure proper rotation (FIFO) and culling practices to control waste
  • Maintain organized coolers and backroom storage areas

Customer Service

  • Provide exceptional service and assist customers with product knowledge and selection
  • Handle customer questions, concerns, and special requests promptly
  • Promote fresh offerings and seasonal items to drive sales

Team Leadership

  • Assist in training, coaching, and developing produce associates
