Their main responsibilities include loading and unloading cargo, sorting rail cars, coupling and uncoupling trains, and ensuring that shipments are directed to the correct destinations. They play a crucial role in the transportation and logistics industry by helping to keep goods moving efficiently across the country. Attention to safety and the ability to operate heavy equipment are important skills for this job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freight yard worker?

To thrive as a Freight Yard Worker, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and knowledge of safety procedures, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with freight handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, as well as basic inventory management systems, is typically required. Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability help individuals excel in the fast-paced and often physically demanding yard environment.
