Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

General Job Category Description

The Freight Associate will schedule incoming and outgoing cargo and freight shipments to be transported via truck or other means.

Essential Functions/Job Responsibilities

  • Collect shipping orders from clients.
  • Prepare estimates for postal or freight rates, shipping charges, and tariffs.
  • Choose appropriate shipping method and prepares bills of lading, invoices, and other shipping documents.
  • Confirm proper import/export documentation and classifies goods into appropriate fee or tariff groups.
  • Facilitate delivery of cargo from clients to the loading platform.
  • Schedule and negotiate transportation of goods with shipping or freight companies.
  • Notify customers or consignees of the arrival of goods with shipping or freight companies.
  • Document shipment costs and weights.
  • Notify customers or consignees of the arrival of freight and arranges delivery.
  • Trace and locates lost shipments when necessary.
  • Communicate with the Purchasing Department, Customer Service Department, and Accounts Payable when a mistake is identified.
  • Communicate with the Sales team regarding key customers, receipt of next day items, damaged orders, or other related issues.
  • Label deliveries and allocate them to their designated place.
  • Assist warehouse manager/supervisor personnel in performing tasks; sort and place merchandise in proper stock areas.
  • Assist in loading and unloading merchandise on delivery trucks.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures in reporting accidents in accordance with company policy.
  • Keep managers/supervisors informed of shortages, overages, damaged merchandise and inventory control.
  • Assume responsibility for the workplace safety of self and co-workers, and for the safety conditions of the work locations. Exercise and promote safe behaviors and demonstrate unyielding support of programs, rules and policies regarding safety.
  • Always remain courteous and service-minded while dealing with other employees and customers.
  • Maintain a neat appearance in accordance to company dress code policy.
  • Maintain punctuality and regular and reliable attendance.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other team members.
  • Protect and maintain confidentiality of company trade secrets and other confidential or proprietary information including, without limitation, operations methods, customer information, and sales data.
  • Complete projects and assignments on time.
  • Attend department meetings and training as requested.
  • Complete other related duties assigned by supervisor and/or department management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Must be physically able to lift up to 50lbs in order to load packages.
  • Must be a dependable worker with the ability to carry out a series of work instructions without constant supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of standards for shipping and freight.
  • Must be proficient with computer skills.
  • Math and recording abilities.
  • Be dependable and report to work on a timely manner.
  • Ability to create a positive and productive working relationship with employees and customers.
  • Work independently using effective problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite and Excel.
  • Required to work some Saturdays for inventory.
  • Must be certified to operate all material handling equipment; forklift, reach and order picker
  • Must obtain an OSHA 10.
  • Superior organizational and multitasking ability.
  • Commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills Professionalism with respect to time management and meeting deadlines.
  • Able to manage multiple, complex, on-going tasks and projects.
