General Description:
The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
Essential Functions:
• As a member of staff, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances KGM's vision and purpose.
• Coordinate timely pick up of donations with organizations, volunteer drivers, and Director of Food Service.
• Record cooler/freezer temperatures and report temperatures that fall outside standards.
• Coordinate weekly pulls with Kitchen Manager and Director.
• Maintain daily communication with Kitchen Manager and Director of items being donated for menu development.
• Refueling, proper storage of and maintaining cleanliness of mission vehicles.
• Maintain the orderly storage of food and non-food items in warehouse.
• Use FIFO to properly rotate food when appropriate.
• Properly date incoming food.
• Ensure safe and timely handling of temperature sensitive foods.
• Direct and oversee volunteers and guest in sorting, organizing, and storing donated products.
• Oversee the creation and distribution of emergency food baskets when needed.
• Oversee the donation of unused food items to partner organizations and record keeping of pounds donated.
• Weigh and record all food donations using Thrift Tracker.
• Record appropriate data for South Michigan Food Bank.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions.
• Ability to drive large box trucks.
• Using a pallet scale to weigh high volume donations.
• Knowledgeable of tailgate lift, walk behind lift-truck, pallet jack.
• Use navigation device to locate donor agencies.
