What does a freelancer video editor do?

A freelancer video editor is a self-employed professional who edits video footage for clients on a project-by-project basis. Their responsibilities include cutting and assembling raw footage, adding effects, sound, and transitions, and ensuring the final product meets client specifications. They often work with various types of content such as commercials, YouTube videos, films, and corporate videos. Freelancer video editors must be skilled in editing software, communicate effectively with clients, and manage their own schedules and business operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelancer video editor?

To thrive as a Freelancer Video Editor, you need strong video editing skills, a creative eye, and proficiency in storytelling, often supported by a portfolio showcasing your work. Expertise in editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve, along with knowledge of color grading and audio editing, is essential. Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability help you collaborate with clients and deliver projects on schedule. These skills ensure you can produce high-quality, client-focused videos while maintaining a successful freelance business.

How do freelancer video editors typically manage client feedback and revisions during a project?

Freelancer video editors often use collaborative tools like Frame.io, Dropbox, or Google Drive to share drafts and gather client feedback efficiently. Clear communication is key—most editors establish a revision policy at the start, specifying the number of revisions included in the project scope. This helps manage expectations and keeps the workflow smooth. Regular check-ins and prompt responses to client notes ensure that the final product aligns with the client's vision, while also helping to maintain professional boundaries and project timelines.

Job description

Freelance Social Media Content Creator

Job Summary
We are looking for a creative and reliable Freelance Social Media Content Creator to help build and maintain our social media presence. This is an independent contractor/freelance opportunity, not an employee position.
We are a Seattle-area residential construction and remodeling company looking for someone who can turn our projects, people, and day-to-day work into engaging social media content.
Our goal is to consistently publish approximately 2–3 posts per week, including a mix of photos, project updates, before-and-afters, Reels, and trend-based content. We want someone who understands what is currently performing on social media and can find creative ways to adapt relevant trends to the construction and remodeling industry.
This role will require occasional visits to our office and active job sites throughout the Seattle area to capture photos and video. Some work, including editing, content planning, and caption creation, can be completed remotely.
Responsibilities
  • Create approximately 2–3 social media posts per week across our platforms
  • Create and edit short-form video content, including Instagram Reels

  • Visit active construction projects as needed to capture photos, video, project progress, and behind-the-scenes content
  • Identify current social media trends and creatively adapt relevant trends to our brand and industry
  • Develop content featuring remodels, before-and-afters, project milestones, employees, behind-the-scenes moments, and completed projects
  • Write engaging captions that are consistent with our company voice
  • Maintain a flexible social media content calendar
  • Help identify opportunities for new and engaging content
  • Monitor basic engagement and use performance insights to help guide future content
Qualifications
  • Experience creating social media content for a business, brand, or professional account
  • Strong understanding of Instagram, Facebook, and other major social media platforms
  • Experience creating and editing Reels and other short-form video content
  • Strong understanding of current social media trends
  • Comfortable taking quality photos and video on-site
  • Experience with video and photo editing software or apps
  • Strong written communication and caption-writing skills
  • Creative, organized, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Comfortable visiting active construction sites throughout the Seattle area
Experience creating content for construction, remodeling, interior design, architecture, real estate, or other home-related businesses is a plus, but not required.
