The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is seeking a UI Specialist I to join the UI Administration & Operational Support (UIA&OS) Department, to help provide Unemployment Insurance (UI) guidance and support to TWC staff across the state. The position will be in UI Administration and Operational Support at 1411 Brazos St., Austin, Texas.
TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 
The UI Specialist I perform complex (journey-level) UI claims work in the Special Programs Unit. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment to gather, research, investigate work, research, and implement UI claims procedures, programs, and services.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: 
- Use the UI benefits system to review all claims for proper payment and conformance to state and federal regulations.
- Process special program claims, including Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), & Labor Dispute or other UI related programs as needed.
- Review determinations to ensure compliance with law and policy.
- Review information and perform functions as needed to ensure high quality and timely processing of claims.
- Utilize knowledge of UI to respond to telephone inquires from claimants, employers, other states and other TWC departments related to UI Special Programs.
- Review procedures for conformance to laws standards, and regulations.
- Give expert testimony in Appeals Hearings.
- Work is routinely reviewed prior to plan implementation.
- Handle multiple priorities with frequent interruptions, while paying attention to detail and accuracy.
- Serve our customers, other staff, groups, and situations with quality and timely customer service in accordance with TWC's mission, vision, and philosophy.
- May train others.
- Adhere to all agency and department rules, regulations, and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
- Able to handle multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Recent experience with UI program and UI Benefits System.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Bilingual English/Spanish.

YOU QUALIFY WITH:
- Six months of full-time experience performing unemployment insurance claims examiner tasks; or six months of full-time experience in the gathering of information, interviewing, counseling, or in the instruction, demonstration, and interpretation of policies in a public or private enterprise; or six months of full-time experience in workforce development issues or programs.
-Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position. 
-Six months of full-time in-service TWC experience classified as an Unemployment Insurance Claims Examiner III or Customer Service Representative IV with regular status; or one year of full-time in-service TWC experience classified as an Unemployment Insurance Claims Examiner II or a Customer Service Representative III with regular status will satisfy the minimum qualifications.

Will work 40 hours a week during hours of operation Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CT. Occasional overtime (evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be required. Management will set the schedule. Duties require up to 5% travel (within the state of Texas) and the ability to lift 15 lbs. This is a career ladder position with the opportunity to advance within the established career ladder structure after meeting minimum qualifications, competency requirements, and time in position.
