Their responsibilities often include brainstorming ideas, drafting and editing scripts, and collaborating with directors or producers to meet the project's needs.

What Does a Freelance Script Writer Do?

As a freelance script writer, your duties vary somewhat depending on the needs of your clients, though for the most part you focus on the writing and editing of scripts for video productions. You can write and pitch a screenplay to an agent, who will attempt to sell it to a film production studio, television studio, or other media production company. About the Opportunity
Accelerate Change is seeking a freelance, Social Video Producer to serve as a hands-on technical lead for our short-form digital series. We are looking for "feet on the ground" in key cultural hubs (NY or LA) to capture content IRL.
Unlike a typical "content creator", this is a production-first freelance opportunity. We need a producer with a TV, studio, or digital media background who can manage a set, handle audio/visual logistics, and direct talent on the street. You will serve as the hands-on showrunner for our short-form series, moving seamlessly from pre-production logistics to filming on-location to overseeing the edit.
Here's what you could expect to do as a freelance Social Video Producer (key responsibilities):
  • Field Production & Street Shoots: Get out from behind the desk to capture "in the moment" content. Whether it is attending local events, conducting person-on-the-street interviews, or filming on-location skits, you bring a "run-and-gun" agility to production. You are comfortable shooting high-quality mobile video on the fly.
  • Show Development & Ideation: Ideate and pilot fresh short-form content formats for in-house and partner brands. You will help shape what experimental, social-first storytelling looks like, specifically looking for ways to leverage your local geography and community.
  • On-Air Talent & Host Persona: Be comfortable stepping in front of the camera for TikToks, Reels, and digital segments. You will embody the voice (and sometimes the face) of select shows to bring personality, relatability, and consistency to the screen.
  • Scripting & Storytelling: Write engaging scripts and pre-production materials for short-form video series and experimental content. You move beyond standard "social copy" to craft narratives that hook viewers instantly and drive community action.
  • Flexible Pre-Production Support: Be a go-to creative partner across the team, ready to jump in wherever content is needed. From writer's room brainstorms to quick-turn shot lists or briefs, you are there to keep things moving and ideas flowing.
  • Brand-Driven Approach: Help ensure every episode and asset feels intentional, aligned with its brand. You care deeply about voice, tone, and aesthetic consistency.
  • Digital Media Unicorn Energy: You are a multi-hyphenate at heart, comfortable wearing different hats and helping wherever the creative process needs a spark: design, short-form video editing, social media copywriting, etc.

What We're Looking For
  • Commitment to social change. Accelerate Change is a mission-driven organization focused on social change and social justice, with a focus on communities of color. You have a demonstrated commitment to this work and you'd like to be part of a team of people who do, too.
  • 3+ years of production experience: You have a background in TV, studio, or digital media production. You understand the discipline of a set and the technical requirements of high-quality video (beyond just iPhone trends).
  • Technical proficiency: You know your way around camera gear, audio setups (lavs/handhelds), and lighting. You can troubleshoot technical issues on the fly.
  • Location-based agility: You are based in NYC or LA and have a deep knowledge of the local culture and locations.
  • Logistical mindset: You are organized and autonomous. You can take a creative brief and turn it into a shoot schedule without hand-holding.

Compensation
This is a 3-month contract opportunity with the potential to extend. The compensation is $50-$65/hour. The number of hours per week will vary, but we estimate roughly 20 hours per week.
Apply
To apply, please upload your resume and tell us more about your experience on the application on our website.
Accelerate Change is an equal opportunity employer. We believe that people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women, and LGBTQIA+ people must be centered in the work we do. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized communities.
