Freelance Script Coverage Assistant information

What does a freelance script coverage assistant do?

A Freelance Script Coverage Assistant reads and evaluates screenplays, scripts, or manuscripts, providing written summaries and critical analysis known as 'coverage.' Their reports help producers, agents, and studios quickly assess whether a script is worth further development or investment. Responsibilities often include summarizing the plot, commenting on strengths and weaknesses, and making recommendations. As freelancers, they typically work on a project-by-project basis for production companies, literary agencies, or independent filmmakers.

How does a freelance script coverage assistant typically interact with writers, producers, and development teams?

As a Freelance Script Coverage Assistant, you will primarily communicate with development executives, literary managers, or producers rather than directly with writers. Your role is to provide objective assessments and detailed notes on scripts, which help guide industry professionals in their decision-making process. While you may not be involved in face-to-face meetings, your written feedback is a crucial part of the collaborative workflow, and clear, insightful coverage can lead to more assignments or long-term relationships with studios and agencies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance script coverage assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Script Coverage Assistant, you need strong analytical reading skills, a solid understanding of screenplay structure, and familiarity with industry terminology, often supported by a background in film studies or screenwriting. Proficiency with script formatting software like Final Draft and knowledge of online submission platforms are typically required. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver constructive feedback make someone stand out in this position. These skills are crucial for providing valuable insights to producers and writers, helping them assess scripts efficiently and make informed development decisions.

Job description

Say hello to opportunities.
It's not everyday that you consider starting a new career. We're RingCentral, and we're happy that someone as talented as you is considering this role. First, a little about us, we're a $2 Billion annual revenue company with double digit Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) and a $93 Billion market opportunity in UCaaS, Contact Center and AI-powered adjacencies. We invest more than $250 million annually to ensure our AI-enabled technology and platforms meet or exceed the needs of our customers.
RingSense AI is our proprietary AI solution. It's designed to fit the business needs of our customers, orchestrated to be accurate and precise, and built on the same open platform principles we apply to our core software solutions.
This is where you and your skills come in. We're currently looking for Network Engineer, NetOPS Infrastructure
Our data centers carry real-time voice, video, and messaging for customers worldwide. When a call degrades, someone notices immediately. Our availability target is 99.999%, and we hold it.
You'll join an infrastructure team that owns routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers across our global data center footprint. This is production infrastructure.
The NetOPS Infra team spans the US, EU, and India. Because we're distributed across time zones, coverage follows the sun: you work your own business hours, five days a week. No night shifts. Occasional weekend work during planned maintenance windows, and that's rare.
Job Duties:
  • Troubleshoot production issues end to end - from the routing table through the firewall policy down into the Linux network stack on the host
  • Handle the operational work that keeps five nines real: firewall access changes, patching, config reviews, capacity checks
  • Deliver infrastructure projects - hardware refresh and replacement, platform migrations, new DC capacity
  • Work directly with platform and application teams instead of handing tickets across a wall
  • Support Lab, Stage, and Regression alongside production

To succeed in this role you must have experience in:
  • 3+ years running production networks - ISP, enterprise, or data center
  • Real depth in TCP/IP. You should be able to explain why BGP picked that path and what a packet capture is actually telling you, not just configure the feature
  • Routing and switching in practice: OSPF, iBGP/eBGP, VRFs, PBR, STP/RSTP, VRRP, link aggregation
  • Tunneling: GRE, IPIP, IPSec
  • Firewalls, both vendor platforms and iptables / firewall
  • Strong Linux, including the network stack - interfaces, routing tables, netfilter, socket state, tcpdump. This is what separates a good troubleshooter from a config engineer
  • Enough server-side context (bare metal, hypervisors, containers) to follow a problem past the switch port
  • Hands-on Juniper experience across routing, switching, and security platforms

Nice to have
  • EVPN/VXLAN, MC-LAG, ECMP, MPLS • High availability and clustering • Load balancing (A10, F5, IPVS) • Scripting for your own workflows - Bash, Python, NETCONF, PyEZ, Ansible • Cloud networking • NetBox, Zabbix, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana
  • You'll sit in an infrastructure team, not automation - but if you like writing scripts to make your own work easier, you'll be in good company.

Working with AI
We're an AI-forward engineering org, and we mean it operationally. Engineers get free access to AI assistants under our company usage policies, and we expect them to be part of your daily workflow - config review, log analysis, scripting, documentation.
What we care about:
  • You've used AI assistants on real engineering work, not just tried them
  • You can scope a prompt well and iterate when the first answer is wrong
  • You verify before you trust. Confidently wrong output is the failure mode that matters in production. Validate against docs and lab testing
  • You follow data-handling policy on what goes into external tools

Why this team
Global scale, real-time traffic, and an availability bar that makes the work interesting. You'll own systems rather than tickets, and there's a strong automation and tooling practice next door if you want to move that way later.
If most of this fits and some of it doesn't, apply anyway.
What we offer:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance
  • Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSAs) and Commuter benefits
  • Voluntary supplemental health coverage and life insurance
  • 401K match and ESPP
  • Paid time off and paid sick leave
  • Paid parental and pregnancy leave
  • Family-forming benefits (IVF, Preservation, Adoption etc.)
  • Emergency backup care (Child/Adult/Pets)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with counseling sessions available 24/7
  • Free legal services that provide legal advice, document creation and estate planning
  • Employee bonus referral program
  • Student loan refinancing assistance
  • Employee 1:1 coaching, perks and discounts program
