Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct nursing services to students in a school setting in La Grange Park, IL. The RN will support students' medical, physical, and educational needs while collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other members of the educational team. All responsibilities are performed in accordance with district policies, the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and state and federal regulations.


Responsibilities:

Student Health & Nursing Care

  • Provide direct nursing care, first aid, illness assessment, and emergency medical services.
  • Administer medications and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and update Individual Health Plans (IHPs).
  • Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation for procedures such as gastrostomy tube feedings and suctioning.
  • Complete accident and incident reports as needed.


Classroom & Student Support

  • Assist students with personal care needs, including toileting, diapering, feeding, grooming, and transfers.
  • Support teachers and therapists in implementing instructional activities and individualized student goals.
  • Assist with behavior intervention plans under the direction of the educational team.
  • Observe student progress, collect data, and communicate updates to staff and families.
  • Accompany students on the bus when necessary.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with classroom staff, therapists, administrators, and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and health information.
  • Fulfill mandated reporter responsibilities for suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Maintain RN licensure through continuing education.
  • Serve as a professional role model and perform other school-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Pediatric nursing experience preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Meets Illinois State Board of Education requirements for an Educator License with Stipulations (Paraprofessional)
  • Valid Illinois driver's license with reliable, insured transportation
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Assist with student transfers and activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and provide hands-on physical assistance throughout the school day
