Principal RF Design Engineer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Position Type: Full-Time | Hybrid
Pay Range: $185k - $250k annually with annual bonus potential

Secmation is hiring a Principal RF Design Engineer that will be responsible for leading the development of complex military communications and electronic warfare. This position requires you to be a Subject Matter Expert in RF and communications design including software defined radios (SW/FW), advanced Radar systems, SATCOM and countermeasure development for mission critical applications. The ideal candidate will be a principal-level, hands-on development engineer with deep expertise in RF design for tactical military systems. This individual will not only lead technically at the program level but will also be directly involved in the full engineering lifecycle-from initial design through real-world testing, validation, and operational implementation.
This position is based in Huntsville, AL, working closely with key defense customers to drive advancements in military communications. In this role, you will lead cutting-edge initiatives that push the boundaries of electronic warfare technology and contribute to mission-critical programs. You will have the opportunity to shape the future of secure, resilient communications for the warfighter, influencing solutions from concept to deployment in support of national security.
What You'll Do
  • Responsible for contributing to our core products which extend state-of-the-art in Defense and industrial cybersecurity and RF technologies.
  • Hands-on, engineering technical leadership role, where you will explore cybersecurity of software defined communications using innovative techniques leveraging your communications engineering skills.
  • Develop, analyze and validate models for communications, and other RF-based systems in defense applications.
  • Design and implement signal processing algorithms.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing, scenario development, and mission simulations.
  • Document and present technical findings to internal teams, government stakeholders, and program leadership.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must have an active DoD Clearance
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 15+ years' experience in military RF systems including simulation, system design, software, and implementation of communication systems and EW
  • Proficient in the design, implementation, and analysis of military communication systems including adaptive tuning, optimization, and error correction
  • Proficient in using SDR design frameworks such as GNURadio, REDHAWK, or similar
  • Experience in C/C++ for embedded applications
  • Experience in Electronic Warfare (EW) system design and applications
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment as part of a small team and execute complex development tasks with limited supervision.

Work Environment
  • Hybrid role with on-site work required in Huntsville, AL.
  • Core work hours are Monday to Friday, with flexible 9/80 work schedules.
