Job description

Our client, an established communication solutions technology manufacturer, is currently seeking an Antenna Design Engineering Team Lead to join their team immediately on a permanent full-time basis working out of their office in Aurora.

You will balance technical expertise with team leadership. In this role, you will oversee a talented team of antenna engineering technicians, driving day-to-day operations, continuous process improvements, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Concurrently, you will provide hands-on technical leadership in the computer-aided design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of next-generation antenna systems.

Compensation:

  • Salary: $100,000 to 120,000/year
  • Vacation: 3 weeks
  • Company Group Benefits
  • RRSP Matching

In office / Hybrid / Remote:

  • In-Office

Role and Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Operations:

  • Supervise Operations: Oversee the day-to-day activities of the antenna engineering technician team to ensure smooth, efficient workflow execution.
  • Drive Accountability: Lead teams to execute against corporate objectives establishing, tracking and reporting on team KPIs.
  • Resource Management: Effectively assign and manage engineering technician resources supporting NPR, ECR, NCMR, RMA, and QA requests.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Provide coaching, training, and guidance on antenna design methodologies to elevate the teamโ€™s collective skill set.
  • Process Optimization: Identify gaps in existing workflows and lead continuous improvement initiatives to build highly effective, standardized procedures and templates.

Technical Execution & R&D:

  • Design & Simulation: Perform computer-aided design, simulation, and analysis of innovative antennas, defining robust technical specifications and requirements.
  • R&D Support: Provide high-level R&D technical support to the engineering manager.
  • Prototype & Test: Lead antenna prototype development and testing across both laboratory and field environments.
  • Advanced Testing: Execute near- and far-field antenna testing for low-band, VHF, UHF, and 5G/6G mobile wireless communication systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a technical point of contact, managing collaboration and technical support for both internal stakeholders and external clients.

Qualifications:

  • Masterโ€™s degree in Electrical Engineering (with an RF/Electromagnetics focus preferred).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in hands-on antenna design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience taking complex antenna designs from initial concept through to mass production.
  • Comprehensive hands-on experience with Passive/Active antenna design (70MHz to mmWave frequencies).
  • Deep understanding of Massive MIMO, beamforming/beam-steering, and low-PIM design methodologies.
  • Well-versed in BTS, mobile, and embedded antenna standards (e.g., IEC, EN, NFPA).
  • Familiarity with wireless communication technologies including P25, Tetra, DMR, 4G, 5G, and Satcom systems.
  • Proficiency with RF design/testing software and hardware (HFSS, CST, ADS, Planet, Atoll, iBwave, vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, and TDR testers).
  • Solid understanding of antenna parts and material selection, including PCB substrates, cable types, and radome materials.
  • A collaborative leader who empowers, inspires, and drives accountability while excelling at giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Exceptional listening, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
