Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The Job Captain is responsible for working with the Senior Designer and the Project Manager in the design, detailing, and documentation of a project. The Job Captain works on all phases of design with an emphasis in the Design Development, Construction Document, and Construction Administration phases. Work focuses on construction document production and management, and includes:

  • Independently draft and assemble interior design construction documents in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Produce workplans in collaboration with project manager to ensure projects stay on schedule and within fees.
  • Review CDs to ensure compliance with the firm’s standards, client brand standards, architectural building systems, codes and ADA requirements.
  • Coordinate consultants’ work to ensure compliance with design solutions and timely submissions of documents.
  • Interact effectively with team members, consultants, and client representatives to ensure a smooth workflow and successful project delivery.
  • Create and contribute to project design and development.
  • Respond to RFIs and Submittals and coordinate as needed in the Construction Administration phase; some travel may be required.
  • Oversee tasks of junior staff and provide feedback on work product.
  • Working knowledge of FF&E integration for hospitality projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and collaborate with external drafting services for production.
  • Support multiple projects concurrently.
Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited university.

License:

Architectural license or NCIDQ, CCIDC, NCARB, ASID or comparable in-process desirable but not required.

Experience:

5-7+ years’ extensive experience in all phases of architectural design, including varied experience involving responsible planning and interior design of complex projects. Substantial experience with applications of architectural technology, interior design materials and construction methods. Experience with high-end restaurant and hospitality, or high-end residential design a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent drafting and detailing skills; Revit and AutoCAD proficiency, familiarity with SketchUp, Bluebeam Studio, ChatGPT Pro, Figma preferred; competency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within project deadlines and budgets. Ability to be flexible and multi-task. Ability to manager and mentor 2-3 junior staff members.
