We are currently seeking a talented freelance/contractor Digital Matte Painter located in BC, Canada for remote/work-from-home positions via PCOIP setup. The Digital Matte Painter creates photorealistic environments, set extensions, and background elements used in visual effects shots for film, television, and streaming productions. This role combines artistic skill and technical knowledge to design and integrate digital environments that seamlessly enhance or replace live-action footage.


Responsibilities:


  • Use Nuke to create high-quality digital matte paintings and environment extensions based on concept art, photography, and production reference.
  • Integrate 2D and 3D elements to produce photorealistic environments for VFX shots.
  • Work closely with VFX supervisors, producers, and compositors to achieve the desired visual style and shot requirements.
  • Utilize photographic references, CG assets, and digital painting techniques to develop believable lighting, atmosphere, and perspective.
  • Iterate on work based on creative direction and production feedback to meet project deadlines and quality standards.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be located in the US
  • Strong proficiency in Nuke.
  • Communicative and available during work hours.
  • Possess a solid understanding of industry trends and a willingness to explore new techniques and approaches.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Time management skills for hitting deadlines independently.
  • Strong artistic eye for composition, lighting, color, and perspective.
  • Understanding of VFX pipelines and integration of matte paintings into live-action plates.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a fast-paced production environment.
