Job description

Location: Remote (U.S.)
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
Salary Range: 160K - 190K

LTS is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to support a major modernization initiative within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health portfolio.

This program supports the transformation of legacy healthcare platforms and infrastructure supporting mission-critical Veteran healthcare systems, including modernization efforts tied to VistA, MUMPS-based applications, enterprise integration, cloud enablement, AI-assisted code analysis tooling, and next-generation health IT platforms.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in enterprise infrastructure architecture, hybrid cloud environments, systems modernization, and healthcare IT transformation within complex federal environments. This role will work closely with engineering, cybersecurity, application modernization, AI platform, and program leadership teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions supporting VA modernization initiatives. A critical function of this role is evaluating AI-generated infrastructure recommendations, deployment specifications, and configuration outputs for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with VA and federal standards before they are acted upon.

What You'll Do:
Lead infrastructure architecture and modernization efforts supporting large-scale VA enterprise health systems.
Design and implement secure, scalable hybrid cloud and on-premise infrastructure solutions.
Support modernization and migration of legacy healthcare systems, including VistA/MUMPS-based environments.
Review and validate AI-generated outputs related to infrastructure components, environment configurations, and deployment specifications-assessing accuracy, completeness, and alignment with VA security and operational requirements before implementation.
Coordinate with VA government stakeholders to confirm AI platform infrastructure components meet federal standards, and serve as the primary infrastructure liaison between the VA environment and the LTS product development team.
Develop infrastructure roadmaps, reference architectures, and technical standards aligned with VA and federal requirements.
Collaborate with application, database, cybersecurity, and DevSecOps teams to support system modernization initiatives.
Architect solutions supporting high availability, disaster recovery, scalability, and performance optimization.
Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, infrastructure tooling, and modernization strategies.
Support infrastructure integration across cloud, data center, network, storage, virtualization, and identity management platforms.
Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity frameworks including NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP, and Zero Trust initiatives.
Participate in technical reviews, architecture governance, engineering assessments, and modernization planning activities.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Support documentation efforts including architecture diagrams, technical design documents, implementation plans, and operational procedures.

What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
10+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering or architecture.
Experience supporting large-scale federal IT modernization programs, preferably within the VA or healthcare environment.
Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate AI-generated technical outputs-such as infrastructure specifications, environment recommendations, or configuration guidance-for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal and VA standards prior to implementation.
Strong experience with hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform).
Experience designing enterprise infrastructure solutions involving virtualization, storage, networking, identity management, and compute environments.
Knowledge of infrastructure modernization strategies for legacy applications and systems.
Experience with enterprise monitoring, automation, backup/recovery, and performance management solutions.
Strong understanding of cybersecurity and compliance requirements within federal environments.
Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical systems in regulated environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have:
Experience supporting VA systems including VistA, CPRS, or other healthcare IT platforms.
Familiarity with MUMPS-based environments and the ability to assess AI-generated analysis of legacy code and infrastructure dependencies for technical accuracy.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or OpenShift.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipeline integration.
Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards including HL7 and FHIR.
Prior experience supporting Electronic Health Record (EHR/EHRM) modernization initiatives.
Relevant cloud or infrastructure certifications (AWS, Azure, VMware, CISSP, etc.).

Why Join LTS?
At LTS, we support programs that directly impact the health and well-being of Veterans nationwide. Our teams work on meaningful modernization initiatives focused on improving healthcare delivery, operational efficiency, and mission success across federal agencies. We foster a collaborative environment that values innovation, integrity, and professional growth while empowering employees to make a lasting impact.
