What is a freelance reader?

A Freelance Reader evaluates manuscripts, screenplays, or other written content for publishers, literary agencies, production companies, or writers. Their role is to provide feedback, offer critiques, and sometimes write coverage reports or summaries. They typically work on a per-project basis and must have strong reading comprehension, analytical skills, and knowledge of storytelling techniques. Freelance Readers often help determine whether a piece of writing is suitable for publication or production.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a freelance reader?

As a Freelance Reader, your primary responsibility is to review manuscripts, scripts, or other texts and provide detailed written reports or coverage on their strengths, weaknesses, and overall suitability for publication or production. You may work directly with literary agents, publishing houses, or production companies, evaluating submissions as part of their selection process. Tasks often include reading large volumes of material under tight deadlines, composing objective feedback, and occasionally discussing your assessments in meetings or via email. Most Freelance Readers work independently, but collaboration with other editorial professionals or participation in review panels may also be required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the freelance reader position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Reader, you need excellent reading comprehension, critical analysis, and writing skills, often supported by a background in English, literature, or publishing. Experience with manuscript-tracking systems, editorial markup tools, or e-reading software can be valuable, though formal certification is less common. Strong time management, attention to detail, and clear communication help you stand out when providing feedback to authors, agents, or publishers. These skills are essential to deliver thorough, actionable evaluations and meet deadlines while working independently.

Job description

The Role: Leading small group adventures around the globe mainly for Korean travelers.

The Commitment: Per-trip. Perfect for your vacation days or freelance life.

Location: Anywhere but an office. The World!

Our Vision: Connecting People, Cultures, and Stories.

This is why we exist. At WeRoad, we donโ€™t just book flights; we bridge worlds.

Weโ€™re on a mission to kill the digital disconnect and get people back into the real world. We take groups of strangers and turn them into a "wolfpack" through shared experiences and a bit of grit. After building a community of 5,000+ leaders across Europe, we're now launching in South Korea โ€” and you could be one of the very first Korean Group Leaders in our history.

(Watch the video to feel the energy of the Global Community)

What is a WeRoad Group Leader?

First things first: This is not a desk job. Itโ€™s also not a full-time career. Itโ€™s a passion project for people who live to travel.

You keep your job, your freelance hustle, or your studies. When you're ready to escape, you pick a WeRoad trip and lead it.

  • You are on the ground: Youโ€™ll be physically on the tripโ€”navigating the streets of Tokyo, hiking in Iceland, or catching sunsets in Baja with a group of 10-15 travelers.

  • You are the Soul of the trip: You aren't a tour guide reading from a script. Youโ€™re the person who sets the tone, breaks the ice, brings the group together and makes sure everyone feels included.

  • Youโ€™re the Fixer: When a flight is delayed or a plan changes, you donโ€™t sweat it. You pivot and keep the energy high.

Who weโ€™re looking for

This is for the natural-born leaders. The ones that are always "the planner" in their friend group.

  • Bilingual: Fluent in Korean and English โ€” you'll need English for training, team communication, and the selection process itself.
  • Social Intelligence: You can read a room and handle group dynamics like a pro.
  • Resourcefulness: Youโ€™re grounded and practical. You find solutions while others are still looking for the problem.
  • Energy: Youโ€™re adventurous, empathetic, and genuinely love meeting new people.
Who should apply

Weโ€™d love to hear from you if you:

  • Are in your 20s, 30s
  • Love group experiences and human connection
  • Feel aligned with WeRoadโ€™s vision and values
  • Are based in Korea or Europe, and available to travel to Milan, Italy for our selection event (from 31st of July to 1st of August)
  • Are available to lead/coordinate your first trip in September 2026
The Perks
  • Travel the World: While youโ€™re leading a trip, the experience is on us. We handle the flights, the stays, and the itinerary. You bring the energy; we provide the world.
  • The Global Community: Gain instant access to our worldwide community of thousands of leaders.
  • Master Leadership: This is a real-world masterclass in crisis management and people skills that you just can't get in a cubicle.
How the selection process works

We donโ€™t do boring HR interviews. We want to see your energy in action.

  1. The Application: Show us your vibe. Tell us who you are โ€” in Korean or English.

  2. The Selection Weekend*: If your application stands out, we'll invite you to our Selection Event in Milan, Italy, which will be conducted in English. A high-energy, 2-day interview process. Itโ€™s part connection, part challenge, and 100% WeRoad. Show us you can lead the pack, and youโ€™re in.

* Note: accommodation and meals for the Selection Event will be covered by WeRoad. Travel to Milan will be at the candidates' own expense โ€” details will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

Ready to lead the world? ํ•จ๊ป˜ ์„ธ๊ณ„๋ฅผ ์ด๋Œ์–ด๋ณผ๊นŒ์š”? Read the vision. Catch the vibe. Apply!
