Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ticket reviews: Verify lifter locations and capacity; strand size, location and pull; stress envelope; blocking; rotating; dimensioning; w/the connectors; unique items.
  • Coordinates structural engineering requirements with other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, civil.
  • Investigates load‑carrying capacities of embedded hardware and devices in concrete.
  • Analyses and designs special formwork for concrete products when needed and the anchorage to concrete substructure.
  • Incorporates engineering requirements into the production practice to ensure conformance to the project drawings and specifications.
  • Meets to discuss issues that arise with quality control, production, ready mix, patching, repair, and yarding personnel daily.
  • Discusses with building erection personnel to resolve constructability issues.
  • Performs research and development for production that can lead to more efficient construction processes and/or have a production cost reducing effect.
  • Works toward standardization of details, embedded items, handling hardware and devices for production and erection departments.
  • Monitors current processes to see if improvements can be made.
  • Researches and develops testing and techniques for existing and new precast panel handling hardware and devices and incorporates the test results into production practice.
  • Coordinates quality system manual meetings and updates pertaining to PCI for the plant certification.
  • Reviews aggregate materials and specifications for acceptance; Checks concrete mix designs, concrete strength test reports and pre‑stressing strand elongation reports for compliance to project specifications.
  • NCR ‘Engineering Review’ resolution: work with engineering, drafting, production and QC to resolve NCR’s.
  • Attends conventions, seminars and workshops that are related to structural engineering concepts, innovative ideas, and modern concrete production methods.
  • Promotes safety to all employees.
  • Production floor visits. Answer questions: communicate pour ticket changes and clarify ambiguity; review steel and embed installations; resolve steel interfaces; work with engineering, drafting, production and QC to solve pour ticket issues.
  • Drawing submittal review and concept ticket review. Help improve drawings and tickets before being submitted or published.
  • Finish and Yard visits. Answer questions; communicate special circumstances. Example: shipping a spandrel vertical.
  • Assist supervisors during production planning with engineering related items.
  • Inspections: form hold downs, yard and A‑frame trailers, batch plant, CPCI.
  • Assist with plant projects. Example: form install; yard layout; plant layout; lean and safety.
  • Assist with R&D. Investigate and develop new products and processes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Overall knowledge in engineering, production, and construction processes of building structures.
  • Knowledge of concrete structures.
  • Understanding building codes, standards, and specifications relevant to the design criteria.
  • Overall understanding in design, production and building erection processes.
  • Must be able to make well educated decisions on how production in all areas can improve.
  • Knowledgeable use of computer skills and software.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to find areas that can be improved to maintain a lean production facility.
  • Resolve problems dealing with the production inefficiencies.
  • Ability to work with other departments to get projects completed efficiently.
