What is freelance print pattern design?

Freelance print pattern design involves creating original patterns and prints that are used on various products, such as textiles, wallpapers, packaging, and fashion items. Freelance designers work independently, often collaborating with clients or companies to develop unique, eye-catching designs that align with specific brand aesthetics or project requirements. This role typically includes researching trends, sketching ideas, digitizing artwork, and preparing files for production. Freelancers must also manage their own business operations, such as finding clients, pricing work, and handling contracts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance print pattern designer?

To thrive as a Freelance Print Pattern Designer, you need strong design skills, a keen eye for color and composition, and proficiency in pattern creation, often supported by a degree in graphic or textile design. Expertise in digital design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD software is typically essential, along with a robust digital portfolio. Creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills help set you apart when collaborating with clients and meeting diverse project requirements. These skills enable you to deliver high-quality, marketable patterns and maintain successful client relationships in a competitive field.

How do freelance print pattern designers typically collaborate with clients and manufacturers during a project?

Freelance print pattern designers often work closely with clients to understand their vision, brand requirements, and intended product applications. Communication usually involves sharing digital sketches, color palettes, and pattern repeats for feedback and revisions. Once a design is approved, designers may coordinate with manufacturers to ensure proper file formatting, color accuracy, and scalability for production. This collaborative process requires clear communication, attention to detail, and flexibility to adapt designs based on feedback and technical constraints.

Job description

We’re seeking a strategic content leader to shape content strategy across our pharmaceutical and healthcare portfolio. This Director of Content will bring 10+ years of pharma experience—client-side or agency-side—with the ability to translate complex brand, patient, HCP, access, and support program needs into clear, compelling, compliant content ecosystems.

Partnering with the VP of Creative, you’ll help define the strategic foundation for the work—guiding messaging architecture, content plans, channel considerations, and cross-functional collaboration across copy, design, digital, strategy, and account teams.

You know how to connect business goals, audience insights, brand strategy, and regulatory realities into content that is useful, differentiated, and built to perform.

You can zoom out to shape the story, journey, and content system—and zoom in on the word choice, claim, or nuance that makes the work sharper, smarter, and compliant.

You will:

LEAD STRATEGIC CONTENT

  • Build insight-driven messaging platforms, content strategies, and content frameworks for pharmaceutical and healthcare brands.
  • Shape omnichannel content approaches that connect audience needs, channel roles, and business objectives across the full customer journey.
  • Translate complex patient, HCP, caregiver, and access journeys into clear, actionable, compliant content experiences.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to clients and internal teams, balancing client goals, creative ambition, channel realities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire ACDs, senior writers, and freelance specialists to deliver strategically grounded, high-quality work.

RAISE QUALITY & DRIVE EXECUTION

  • Set the content and copy bar across web, digital media, SMS, email, presentations, print, leave-behinds, and integrated campaign initiatives.
  • Guide teams and clients through MLR review, incorporating feedback while protecting the strategy, clarity, and strength of the work.
  • Manage multiple brands, workstreams, and deadlines with clarity, continuity, and strategic focus in a fast-moving agency environment.
  • Support content operations, resourcing, utilization, and team growth in partnership with creative leadership.

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 10+ years: Proven pharmaceutical advertising or healthcare communications experience, with a path from senior content or copy lead to strategic creative leader.
  • Relevant portfolio: Strong healthcare work across content strategy, messaging, digital, print, interactive, and experiential touchpoints.
  • MLR fluency: Deep understanding of FDA promotional regulations and review expectations.
  • Strategic presence: Confident leading discussions, presenting recommendations, and influencing clients and internal teams.
  • Comfort in the gray: Curious, adaptable, and solution-oriented—even when the path is not perfectly clear.
  • Commitment: A service-minded leader who understands agency pace and steps up when client commitments require it.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Health Savings Account with employer contribution
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Profit Share Bonus Plan
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays
  • Family Leave
  • Short-Term & Long-Term Disability
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Wellness Resources, including discounted Lifetime Fitness membership
  • Generous onsite café
