Building a reliable workflow and keeping clients updated on progress can significantly reduce stress and ensure successful project delivery.

What is freelance photo retouching?

Freelance photo retouching is the process of enhancing or correcting digital images on a contract or per-project basis, rather than as a full-time employee for a single company. Freelance photo retouchers use specialized software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, to improve image quality, adjust colors, remove blemishes, and make other edits according to client specifications. They often work with photographers, marketing agencies, or individuals who need their photos polished for professional or personal use. Working as a freelancer offers flexibility in choosing projects and setting your own schedule.

Job description

Snowcone is hiring an E-Commerce Production Designer to join our team in Thousand Oaks, CA.

This is an on-site, part-time position (20 hours per week), Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, paying $25–$30 per hour.

We're building the future of personalized merchandise for the next generation and are looking for someone with exceptional Photoshop skills, strong visual taste, and an instinct for creating product imagery that sells.

In this role, you'll use AI tools and Photoshop to create product mockups, build precise masks and composites, position artwork, and produce polished production-ready assets for e-commerce. Success in this role comes from a combination of technical Photoshop ability, attention to detail, and strong visual judgment.

We're less concerned with formal credentials and more interested in someone who can consistently make products look their best. The ideal candidate understands product presentation, visual merchandising, and the subtle design decisions that influence purchasing behavior online.

This role takes place in a dedicated studio workspace located within a family residence, providing a relaxed and friendly work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Create product mockups using AI-powered creative tools and Photoshop
  • Produce clean, accurate masks, selections, and image composites
  • Position artwork and prepare production-ready assets using internal tools
  • Maintain consistent visual quality across large volumes of products
  • Help improve product presentation and merchandising through strong visual decision-making
  • Collaborate on creative ideas and image concepts that enhance product appeal

Requirements:

  • Strong Photoshop skills, especially masking, selections, compositing, and image cleanup
  • Excellent visual taste and design judgment
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to work independently after training
  • Reliable transportation to Thousand Oaks

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with e-commerce merchandising
  • Photography, photo retouching, or product photography experience
  • Familiarity with Shopify, Amazon, Etsy, or other e-commerce platforms
  • Understanding of conversion-focused product presentation and online merchandising
  • Experience creating product listings, marketing assets, or imagery for consumer products
  • Interest in consumer products, retail trends, and online shopping behavior

Ideal Candidates:

  • This role is a great fit for designers, photographers, digital artists, e-commerce creatives, freelancers, Shopify store operators, Etsy sellers, and marketing-minded creators who enjoy combining visual design with product merchandising.

We look forward to reviewing your portfolio!
