Job description

About the Role
ROI Solutions is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to lead the strategy and evolution of our Oracle database environment. In this high-impact individual contributor role, you'll combine deep Oracle expertise with a pragmatic approach to modernization, shaping architecture and technical standards while advancing performance, reliability, security, automation, observability, resiliency, and cloud adoption. You will collaborate with our Product Reliability and Security Engineering, Product, and Product Engineering teams, along with our managed services partner, to ensure ROI's database platforms remain secure, scalable, and prepared for the future.
Who Thrives Here
  • You take ownership. You identify issues and opportunities, establish priorities, and move important work forward in partnership with the broader organization.
  • You think beyond today's problem. Resolving an incident matters, but so does identifying why it happened and improving the architecture, tooling, or process so it is less likely to happen again.
  • You set thoughtful standards. You understand that good technical governance should improve quality and reduce risk without unnecessarily slowing engineering teams.
  • You communicate proactively. You make risks, tradeoffs, recommendations, and progress visible to colleagues and leadership.
  • You teach, learn, and collaborate. Your success is measured not only by the difficult problems you solve personally, but also by the capabilities you help build across the organization.
  • You automate. You look for opportunities to replace repetitive manual processes with reliable tooling, monitoring, and automation.
  • You're pragmatic about modernization. You understand that mature platforms cannot simply be replaced overnight. You can protect what works today while creating a better architecture for tomorrow.
  • You think about organizational resilience. Good systems should not depend on one person knowing how everything works. You document, automate, teach, and build processes that make the entire organization stronger.

Responsibilities
Database Strategy & Architecture
  • Set database architecture standards and guide technical decisions across ROI's products and platforms.
  • Own the multi-year roadmap for capacity, technical debt, and database modernization.
  • Evaluate database technologies and cloud services based on reliability, scalability, security, and cost.

Performance, Reliability & Resiliency
  • Provide senior technical ownership and escalation support for Oracle production and non-production environments.
  • Lead performance tuning, SQL optimization, capacity planning, and troubleshooting with developers.
  • Strengthen monitoring, backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster-recovery practices.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for significant incidents and participate in a shared on-call rotation.

Database Standards & Governance
  • Define practical standards for database architecture, design, SQL development, documentation, and operations.
  • Review significant schema changes, migrations, procedural objects, and database designs.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve database quality and performance throughout the development lifecycle.

Database Modernization
  • Develop a pragmatic modernization strategy for ROI's mature Oracle environment and evolving product architecture.
  • Evaluate Oracle on AWS, cloud-native services, and alternative database platforms for appropriate workloads.
  • Automate database administration, deployment, monitoring, testing, and maintenance to reduce technical debt and complexity. Strengthen Internal Database Capability
  • Serve as a senior database resource and mentor engineers in relational design, SQL performance, and database best practices.
  • Create documentation, training, reusable patterns, and automation that strengthen shared database knowledge.
  • Clarify responsibilities, knowledge, and escalation procedures with the managed services provider.

Support Data & Product Initiatives
  • Provide database expertise for data pipelines, client conversions, migrations, and significant product initiatives.
  • Partner with data and engineering teams on scalable, secure, and efficient data movement across platforms and external systems.

Collaborate Across the Organization
  • Serve as the senior technical partner to ROI's database managed services provider.
  • Define responsibilities, escalation paths, service expectations, and SLAs, and regularly assess service quality.
  • Evaluate database-related vendors, technologies, and services as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of Oracle database administration experience supporting complex production environments.
  • Advanced experience with Oracle performance tuning, SQL optimization, and query-plan analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle technologies, including RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, ASM, and partitioning.
  • Working familiarity with PL/SQL sufficient to review, troubleshoot, and advise on database-resident code.
  • Strong relational database architecture, design, and data-modeling skills.
  • Experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster-recovery planning and testing.
  • Experience with database security, auditing, access management, and compliance-oriented environments such as PCI.
  • Ability to diagnose complex performance and reliability issues across applications and database infrastructure.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, prioritization, and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
  • Experience developing or executing Oracle modernization and cloud migration strategies.
  • Experience with Oracle workloads in AWS (Oracle DB@AWS).
  • Familiarity with AWS RDS, Aurora, or other cloud-native database technologies.
  • Experience evaluating when workloads should remain on Oracle versus transition to alternative database platforms.
  • Experience with data pipeline and transformation technologies.
  • Experience with Datadog or comparable database monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or comparable Oracle certification.
  • Experience with SaaS, transaction-intensive, fundraising, payment, financial, or other mission-critical software platforms.
  • Experience working in a small or mid-sized technology organization where senior technical contributors work across traditional functional boundaries.
  • Experience automating database administration, monitoring, deployment, or operational processes.

PLEASE NOTE:
  • This role will work in the Eastern Time Zone.
  • Limited travel. Generally fewer than five trips per year for in-person team, planning, or company meetings.
  • This role is posted as remote, but it could be hybrid or in-office if that best fits your working style.
  • This role is ONLY available for work in the following (24) locations: AL, AR, CO, FL, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, PA, SC, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, & DC.

If you don't meet all the requirements mentioned above, don't worry. We strongly believe in creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. If you find this job opportunity interesting but don't meet all the qualifications listed in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might be the perfect candidate for this role or similar roles.
