Employment Type: Contract (W2)
Rate: $60/hr, depending on experience
Duration: 6 months
Hours: 40/week, 9–5 (onsite Tuesday–Thursday)

About the Role

We''re seeking a skilled and motivated Java Developer to join a dynamic development team. You''ll design, develop, and maintain scalable, efficient backend systems that power our applications — working primarily in Java, Spring Boot, and database technologies. This is a hands-on backend role with a mix of new development, optimization, and customer-facing troubleshooting in an Agile environment.

What You''ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services and APIs using Spring Boot
  • Write clean, maintainable, testable code following best practices and deadlines
  • Develop and optimize database queries across SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing
  • Debug and resolve application issues, performance bottlenecks, and bugs
  • Implement security and data-protection measures per best practices
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to resolve support tickets and incidents — remotely and in person as needed
  • Document customer interactions and workflows in a timely manner
  • Work within an Agile/Scrum environment

What You''ll Bring

  • Strong proficiency in Java (11 and 17)
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem (Spring Data, Spring Security)
  • Solid understanding of relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis)
  • RESTful API development experience
  • Hibernate / JPA experience
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Strong grasp of object-oriented design, design patterns, and core software development principles
  • Ability to diagnose application issues and provide technical support
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
  • CI/CD pipelines and build tools (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle)
  • Agile/Scrum experience
  • JMS/messaging, XML, REST/SOAP
  • Exposure to J2EE / JSP (legacy components)

Education

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2–4 years of relevant development experience
