What is a freelance instructor?

Freelance instructors are independent professionals who teach courses, workshops, or training sessions on a contract or per-project basis, rather than as full-time employees of an organization. They often specialize in a particular subject area, such as language, technology, fitness, or art, and may work with educational institutions, businesses, or individual clients. Freelance instructors have the flexibility to set their own schedules, choose their clients, and design their own curricula. This role requires strong communication skills, expertise in the subject matter, and the ability to market oneself to find new opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance instructor?

To thrive as a Freelance Instructor, you need expertise in your subject area, effective instructional design, and often a relevant degree or teaching certification. Familiarity with virtual classroom platforms, online course management systems, and digital collaboration tools is typically required. Strong communication, adaptability, and self-motivation help you engage learners and manage diverse client needs. These skills ensure you can deliver impactful instruction, build your reputation, and succeed in a flexible, competitive environment.

What are some common challenges freelance instructors face when managing multiple clients or courses?

Freelance instructors often juggle several clients or courses at once, which can make time management and organization challenging. Balancing lesson planning, grading, and administrative tasks across different platforms or institutions requires strong self-discipline and effective scheduling. Additionally, instructors may need to quickly adapt to varying curricula, teaching styles, and student needs, while maintaining clear communication with each client. Building a consistent workflow and using digital tools for scheduling and collaboration can help mitigate these challenges.

Job description

Freelance Facilitator

Quantiphi is looking for an experienced corporate freelance trainer/facilitator to deliver high-impact training for managers across our North America workforce. The program focuses on equipping new managers with the mindsets, frameworks, and practical skills they need to lead with confidence, covering feedback delivery, cross-cultural team management, hybrid leadership, and peer learning through structured role-play and real workplace application. This is a facilitated, cohort-based engagement. The curriculum, facilitator guide, and all participant materials are designed in collaboration with the L&D team. Your role is to bring energy, psychological safety, cultural fluency, and rigorous facilitation so the learning truly lands with a technically sophisticated, fast-moving audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate cohort-based sessions for first-time and new managers across North America
  • Lead structured role-plays and observed practice with debrief on feedback frameworks (CLEAR, SBI, or equivalent)
  • Navigate cross-cultural leadership conversations within a North American professional context
  • Deliver hybrid team management content across in-person and virtual formats
  • Integrate internal business leader guest speakers into facilitated sessions
  • Drive reflection, peer learning, and real workplace application not lecture-heavy delivery
  • Support programme measurement through self-efficacy surveys and ROI discussions
  • All session materials, including facilitator guide, participant workbooks, and reference tools, will be provided in advance.

Qualifications:

  • True Colors® Certification (must be a certified True Colors® practitioner)
  • 10+ years of corporate L&D facilitation experience
  • Proven experience facilitating first-time or new manager development programmes
  • Demonstrated expertise in feedback frameworks (CLEAR, SBI, or equivalent contrastive models)
  • Experience facilitating leadership conversations within North American corporate contexts
  • Experience with hybrid team management content delivery
  • Strong role-play facilitation skills, and should be comfortable running structured, observed practice with debrief
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, AI/data science corporate environment
  • Native English speaker (mandatory)

Engagement Structure:

  • Total Duration: 10 hours of instructor-led training
  • Format: 2 hours per week over 5 weeks
  • Delivery Mode: In-person
  • Location: Quantiphi office, Toronto/Fredericton, Canada
  • Lunch will be provided during in-person sessions

This will begin as a pilot batch. Based on facilitator quality and program impact, we expect to scale this into a recurring engagement with multiple cohorts per week, requiring approximately 10-15 hours of facilitation per week. Compensation will be agreed on a per-hour basis for the initial batch, with a structured engagement model for scale.

Preferred Skills:

  • ICF-accredited coaching certification (PCC or ACC)
  • Experience applying Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions framework in a corporate training context
  • Prior experience facilitating for technology, AI, or data science companies
  • Familiarity with sprint-based, agile work environments
  • Experience integrating internal business leader guest speakers into facilitated sessions
  • Strong data literacy and comfortable discussing metrics, self-efficacy surveys, and programme ROI
