Job description

About Medical Guardian

Medical Guardian is transforming from a device-centric emergency response company into a connected healthcare platform that empowers older adults and caregivers with greater independence, safety, and proactive wellness support.

As part of our multi-year Digital Transformation Initiative, we are modernizing and unifying our digital ecosystem, including member portals, caregiver experiences, senior living applications, and partner platforms, into a scalable, modular Unified App Platform.

We are seeking a Principal Frontend Platform Engineer to lead the frontend architecture, engineering standards, and platform strategy powering this transformation across web and mobile experiences.

Role Summary

As the Principal Frontend Platform Engineer, you will serve as the technical leader responsible for architecting and delivering modern, scalable, secure, and highly performant frontend applications across the Medical Guardian ecosystem.

You will drive the evolution of our Frontend Platform strategy using React, Next.js, React Native, Sanity.io, and modern cloud-native development practices. This role will establish frontend architectural standards, design system governance, authentication patterns, observability, and developer experience practices across engineering teams.

This is a highly strategic, hands-on leadership role focused on enabling a modular, multilingual, multi-brand digital platform supporting members, caregivers, partners, and internal operations. This role is expected to remain technically hands-on, contributing to architecture, proof-of-concepts, critical implementation efforts, and frontend platform engineering initiatives.

You will work closely with Product, UX, Platform Engineering, AI/ML, Security, and backend services teams to deliver seamless digital healthcare experiences at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Platform Engineering

  • Lead frontend architecture for enterprise web and mobile applications using React, Next.js, and React Native.
  • Design scalable, modular, reusable UI components aligned to the enterprise Design System and component governance strategy.
  • Architect and implement integrations with Sanity.io headless CMS for structured, multilingual, and dynamic content delivery.
  • Design and implement secure authentication and identity flows leveraging FusionAuth, OAuth2/OIDC, MFA, SSO, and role-based access controls.
  • Apply secure development principles and healthcare compliance considerations, including HIPAA, PHI handling, HITRUST, and PCI-DSS requirements, to frontend architecture and platform design decisions.
  • Define frontend platform standards for performance, scalability, accessibility, resiliency, and security.
  • Define and evolve frontend CI/CD standards including automated testing, deployment workflows, release governance, environment management, and production rollout strategies.
  • Drive adoption of modern frontend architecture patterns including SSR/ISR, edge rendering, micro frontends, and Progressive Web Application (PWA) capabilities.
  • Define and implement frontend observability standards including telemetry, error tracking, performance monitoring, distributed tracing, and user experience analytics.

Leadership & Engineering Excellence

  • Serve as the principal technical authority and mentor for frontend engineers across multiple engineering pods.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, architectural governance, testing practices, and secure development patterns.
  • Own the frontend platform technical roadmap, including architectural direction, modernization initiatives, technical debt reduction, and presentation of strategy and progress to engineering leadership.
  • Improve frontend developer experience through tooling, local development workflows, CI/CD automation, automated testing, engineering documentation, and release enablement practices.
  • Partner with platform and security teams to mature CI/CD pipelines, secure development workflows, automated quality gates, and frontend release processes.
  • Establish scalable frontend release strategies including feature flags, staged deployments, rollback mechanisms, and production validation practices.

Delivery & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Product, UX, Engineering, AI/ML, and Data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Integrate frontend applications with backend microservices, orchestration platforms, and third-party APIs including Salesforce, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Twilio, and other enterprise platforms.
  • Lead delivery of multi-brand, multi-tenant application capabilities supporting Medical Guardian, MobileHelp, and MedScope ecosystems.
  • Lead the strategic migration of mobile applications from Flutter to React Native, establishing the architecture, tooling, and engineering patterns for a unified cross-platform codebase.
  • Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to optimize frontend deployment strategies across Azure cloud environments.

Innovation & Strategy

  • Evaluate and introduce emerging frontend technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices.
  • Drive personalization and intelligent engagement capabilities leveraging AI/ML-powered experiences.
  • Contribute to long-term frontend Platform strategy, technical innovation initiatives, and engineering thought leadership.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • 8+ years of professional frontend engineering experience with 3+ years operating in a Principal, Staff, or Lead Engineer capacity.
  • Deep expertise in React.js, Next.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern frontend architecture patterns.

  • Expertise in responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1+), and frontend performance optimization.
  • Experience building and maintaining enterprise design systems and component libraries.

Architecture & Systems

  • Experience designing and supporting multi-brand, multi-tenant frontend platforms.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architectures and GraphQL/REST API integration patterns.
