  • Apply J-STD-001 requirements when evaluating soldering workmanship and nonconforming products.
  • Provide guidance to supplier production personnel on IPC-A-610 workmanship and acceptance requirements.
Supplier Inspection and Qualification Support
  • Perform source inspections at supplier manufacturing facilities against approved drawings, specifications, and workmanship requirements.
  • Support First Article Inspection validation and prepare AS9102-compliant inspection documentation.
  • Inspect production lots required for supplier qualification, including two consecutive defect-free lots when applicable.
  • Support supplier qualification, requalification, and surveillance activities.
  • Reinstate or perform additional source inspections following an escape, RMA, or confirmed supplier nonconformance.
  • Communicate inspection findings and acceptance requirements to suppliers and Joby teams.
Dimensional and General Inspection
  • Use calipers, pin gauges, vision systems, and other inspection tools to verify product dimensions.
  • Inspect purchased electronic and electromechanical components against purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
  • Verify material certifications, product identification, and applicable inspection requirements.
Documentation and Nonconformance
  • Document inspection results in the quality management system and maintain clear, auditable records.
  • Initiate and track nonconformance reports through the Material Review Board process.
  • Communicate inspection results, nonconformances, and dispositions to affected teams.
  • Maintain traceability of products, materials, production lots, and calibrated inspection equipment.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Three or more years of experience in electronics, PCBA assembly, or quality inspection.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 acceptance standards and J-STD-001 requirements.
  • Experience operating 3D Automated Optical Inspection equipment and reviewing inspection results.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic assembly drawings, schematics, Bills of Materials, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Ability to use basic inspection tools and evaluate product workmanship.
  • Understanding of product, material, lot, and calibration traceability.
  • Ability to clearly document inspection results and communicate nonconformances.
  • Ability to work effectively with suppliers, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing source inspection at supplier manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience using digital X-ray equipment to inspect BGA, QFN, and other hidden solder joints.
  • Knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements and FAI documentation.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector or equivalent certification.
  • Basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control, including control charts and identifying out-of-control conditions.
  • Experience working in aerospace or another regulated manufacturing environment.

This position may be filled as either:
  • A full-time, direct hourly position with Joby Aviation; or
  • An initial six-month temporary contract through a staffing agency.
Contract extensions or conversion to direct employment may be considered based on performance, business needs, budget, and position approval.
