INSPECTOR – LASER TRACKER and CMM OPERATOR

Occupation Summary

The Laser Tracker and CMM Operator is responsible for performing high-precision dimensional inspection, measurement, and alignment of aerospace parts, assemblies, and tooling. This role supports manufacturing, assembly, quality assurance, and engineering by ensuring all components, tooling, and assemblies meet stringent aerospace specifications, tolerances, and quality standards. The position utilizes laser tracker systems, Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), and conventional precision measuring instruments to inspect complex parts, large-scale structures, and production tooling throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. The role also performs all hand check requirements for FAI and/or normal production parts that utilize CMM or laser inspection to include creating DMR documentation for non-conforming parts.

Work Performed

Dimensional Measurement amp; Metrology

Operate laser tracker and CMM systems (Leica, FARO, API, or equivalent) to measure, inspect, and align aerospace components, assemblies, and tooling.

Utilizes inspection programs like PC-DMIS, Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer or other metrology CAD based measurement software to generate inspection reports from CMM and/or laser tracker.

Perform dimensional inspections per engineering drawings, CAD models, GD amp;T requirements, inspection plans, and quality standards.

Set up and execute measurements for large-scale structures, fixtures, jigs, and assemblies.

Analyze measurement data and determine conformance to design requirements.

Generate accurate inspection reports, deviation documentation, and first article inspection (FAI) packages.

Performs duties incidental to the accomplishment of the assigned task.

Computer proficiency to navigate systems for labor charging, access work instructions, record completion of work, TC1, MES, PII’s, etc.

Each employee will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and housekeeping in his work area as directed as well as assuring the accuracy of their work.

Determine Laser Tracker and CMM methods, sequences, layouts, and setups based on blueprints, specifications, standards, and inspection procedures.

Support alignment, shimming, and corrective actions during assembly and production.

Equipment, Calibration amp; Documentation

Identify improper use or damage to inspection equipment and assist in corrective actions.

Maintain accurate records for inspections, calibrations, tooling approvals, and audits.

Collaboration amp; Quality

Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to resolve dimensional and related issues.

Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Follow all aerospace quality systems and safety requirements (AS9100, ISO, customer and military standards).

Maintain cleanliness, housekeeping, and accuracy within the assigned work area.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of two years of experience in aerospace inspection, metrology, machining, or close-tolerance manufacturing.

Minimum of two years prior experience operating laser tracker systems and/or CMMs in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to successfully pass blueprint, laser, CMM, and Inspection report proficiency tests to be administered prior to placement in the position.
