What is freelance development?

Freelance development refers to software development work done independently by individuals, rather than as a full-time employee of a company. Freelance developers are typically self-employed and take on projects for various clients, working remotely or on-site as needed. They may specialize in web development, mobile app development, or other programming areas, and manage their own schedules, contracts, and payments. This career path offers flexibility and variety, but also requires strong self-management and business skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance developer?

To thrive as a Freelance Developer, you need strong programming skills, a solid grasp of software development principles, and a portfolio showcasing relevant experience, often supported by a degree or certifications in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and popular frameworks or languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, React) is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for managing client relationships and meeting deadlines independently. These abilities are crucial for delivering high-quality work, maintaining client satisfaction, and sustaining a successful freelance career.

What are some common challenges freelance developers face when managing multiple projects, and how can they be addressed?

Freelance developers often juggle several projects at once, which can lead to challenges like managing deadlines, communicating with different clients, and maintaining consistent code quality. To address these issues, effective time management tools, clear communication practices, and robust project tracking systems are essential. Regular check-ins with clients, setting realistic expectations, and using version control platforms can help ensure smooth project delivery and client satisfaction.

Type: Freelance Hourly Contract

About the Opportunity

This opportunity is for experienced Product Management professionals interested in contributing to advanced AI research and evaluation projects involving enterprise-scale product management.

The role focuses on creating realistic product scenarios, developing reference solutions, and building evaluation criteria that reflect how senior product leaders operate within Fortune 500 and large enterprise organizations.

You'll apply your experience in product strategy, discovery, roadmap planning, stakeholder management, and enterprise product development to help improve the capabilities of next-generation AI systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design enterprise product scenarios involving multi-quarter roadmap planning, cross-functional stakeholder alignment, and complex go-to-market or platform decisions.
  • Develop product tasks covering product strategy, discovery, user research, pricing and packaging, platform/API product management, and product-led growth.
  • Create product operations scenarios using enterprise tools such as Jira, Productboard, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Figma, and experimentation platforms.
  • Apply established product methodologies such as JTBD, RICE, opportunity scoring, dual-track agile, and OKRs.
  • Develop high-quality reference materials, including PRDs, roadmap strategies, product requirements, and executive-level product narratives.
  • Create evaluation rubrics that distinguish authentic enterprise product judgment from generic framework knowledge.
  • Evaluate product decisions and deliverables based on strategic thinking, customer impact, business objectives, execution complexity, and stakeholder considerations.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager or Product Leader within a Fortune 500 technology or enterprise organization.
  • Experience working in organizations such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, Adobe, or equivalent enterprise environments.
  • Experience within non-technology Fortune 500 organizations such as JPMorgan, UPS, Unilever, PepsiCo, or comparable companies is also relevant.
  • Direct ownership of enterprise-scale products, platforms, or product lines with measurable business impact.
  • Strong understanding of product strategy, roadmap planning, discovery, experimentation, pricing, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise product tools, methodologies, and operating models.
  • Demonstrated understanding of enterprise budgets, cross-functional governance, executive stakeholder alignment, and organizational decision-making.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating product rubrics, evaluation frameworks, training curricula, PRDs, or product documentation.
  • Experience evaluating or mentoring Product Managers and product teams.
  • Familiarity with AI product development, AI model evaluation, or AI training workflows is a plus.
  • Experience working across multiple product functions, business units, or enterprise markets.

Compensation

  • Competitive compensation of $80โ€“$90/hour.
  • Weekly payments.
  • Independent contractor engagement.
