Job description

Responsible for cost accounting, inventory accounting and valuation, manufacturing reporting, and variance analysis & reporting for each of the company's manufacturing facilities. Also responsible for documenting and adjusting the inventory reserve accounts for slow-moving & obsolete inventory and revaluation provisions. Responsible for improving the costing systems and processes in use at the company as well as for maintaining the accounting systems and standard costs for the company. Responsible for planning and implementing operations accounting changes resulting from business process changes and ensuring adequate internal controls pertaining to the costs and inventory
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining cost accounting methods and procedures.
  2. Responsible for the cost, inventory, and reserve-related journal entries each month for all locations.
  3. Issues company-wide monthly reports with appropriate comments on cost variances for the manufacturing areas.
  4. Works closely with other finance team members to ensure accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting each month.
  5. Works closely with Directors of Production, Materials, Engineering, and Quality to ensure adequate information flow for reporting, process & procedure changes, and future plans.
  6. Reports on monthly inventory reserves, including evaluation of obsolete and slow-moving inventory adequacy.
  7. Ensures inventory controls by reviewing all non-sales transactions to help ensure accurate accounting and compliance with company policies.
  8. Responsible for company-wide inventory analysis by commodity. Ensures perpetual inventory balances are reconciled to the general ledger each month.
  9. Develops and issues monthly reports on labor, production, variances, expenses, and other significant operations-related activity.
  10. Responsible for leading the periodic and annual physical inventories for all locations from an accounting perspective.
  11. Coordinates and analyzes standard cost updates and cost rolls and ensures related journal entry transactions are recorded.
  12. Assists in the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) preparation as it pertains to the operations departments and accounts.
  13. Completes periodic analysis on costs/benefits of in-house production versus outsourcing and other production-related decisions.
  14. Coordinates completion of various government reports, censuses, and surveys on a periodic basis.
  15. Serves as main point of contact for inventory and cost area for external financial auditors.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Provides full back-up support function for Cost Accountant/Cost Analyst positions.
  2. Participates on and leads various teams as the Finance representative for the cost/inventory area.
  3. Performs other related duties and analysis as assigned by management.

Technical Competencies:
  • Minimum of BS degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years work experience in an accounting environment with a manufacturing company; including five (5) in the cost and inventory area.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong numeric aptitude including proficient math skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and various accounting software.
  • Intermediate/advanced spreadsheet skills, including data uploads/downloads and data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and some knowledge of federal and state income tax required.
