DATA SCIENTIST

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • Applies knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to the development and improvement of processes.
  • Identifies limitations or potential issues with datasets and data types that may impact performance from machine learning algorithms.
  • Re-trains models as needed to address new challenges or novel goals.
  • Aids investigators and stakeholders in the validation of results.
  • Generates detailed reports and presentations.
  • Generates accurate and thorough documentation of all datasets and analytic pipeline.
  • Executes quality control procedures for data and programs.
  • Conducts analyses for cross-sectional, cohort, and case-cohort study designs.
  • Uses SAS and R programs as well as custom software for genetic analysis.
  • Applies basic, intermediate, and advanced statistical and/or statistical genetic techniques in the analysis and interpretation of data, including multi-omic data.
  • Assists in the interpretation and writing of statistical results for manuscripts and other reports.
  • Assists in developing, writing, and implementing statistical analysis plans.
  • Interfaces with the more biologically-driven multiple omic projects, including metabolomics and proteomics.
  • Actively collaborates with investigators to design analyses of study data for papers, grants, and presentations.
  • Designs, troubleshoots, and implements clinical research database.
  • Serves as scientific advisor or consultant to other trainees and junior faculty conducting studies in their specific scientific field of expertise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics
  • The ideal candidate is an MD or Ph.D. with a medical plus data science background and 2-3 years post terminal degree experience.
  • Must have understanding of and experience with patient oriented research studies and data generated by studies of that nature.
  • Outstanding quantitative skills and a strong background in large epidemiologic and clinical trials biostatistical research.
  • Data management and data analysis skills, as well as experience working with large data sets.

Compensation & Salary Range
This position is assigned to Wage Grade W.G.420 with a full Compensation-approved range of $85,600-$139,100 annually (midpoint $111,280).
Final offers will be made within this grade range based on the candidate's qualifications, internal equity, and the department's budgeted amount for the role. Applicants whose stated salary expectations fall outside the posted grade range may not be considered.
Qualifications
Education
  • Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required.
  • Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
