Job description

Job Title: Freelance Technical Designer -Intimates Location: New York, NY Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Technical Designer to support our Intimates (Undies) department. This role is responsible for ensuring consistency in fit, construction, quality, and measurement accuracy throughout the product development process.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical design expertise, patternmaking knowledge, and experience leading fit sessions while partnering cross-functionally with Design, Production, and vendor teams. Intimates experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate proto, fit, and production samples for measurement accuracy, construction quality, and overall fit.
  • Represent company fit and construction standards throughout the product development process.
  • Lead and facilitate fit sessions, providing clear direction and recommendations.
  • Partner closely with Design and Production teams to communicate fit and construction requirements to vendors.
  • Draft and communicate fit comments, technical guidance, sketches, and pattern corrections.
  • Support the development process from initial concept through pre-production approval.
  • Maintain fit standards, sample records, and technical documentation.
  • Create and manage sample tracking reports and development status updates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely execution of product milestones.
  • Support in-office fittings, approvals, and product development meetings as business needs require.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of Technical Design experience within apparel.
  • Strong patternmaking and pattern correction skills.
  • Experience leading fit sessions and evaluating garment fit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across Design, Production, and Product Development teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in Intimates, Lingerie, Underwear, or related categories is preferred.
  • Knowledge of garment construction, grading, and fit standards.
  • Experience communicating technical requirements directly to vendors.
