Job description

The In-House Graphic Designer designs high-quality visual materials that inspire, educate, and engage children and their families. This role manages visual consistency across print, digital, marketing advertising, and physical museum environments, including exhibit graphics and facility signage. The ideal candidate blends creative storytelling with functional design to create accessible, vibrant communications for diverse audiences.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


Digital & Interactive Media

• Design assets for digital channels, including website landing pages, email newsletters, and organic/paid social media campaigns.

Museum Signage

• Design wayfinding signage, including directional signage, maps, and safety graphics to help visitors navigate the museum building.

• Design promotional signage, including banners, A-frames, vinyl decals, and window displays.

• Audit existing museum signage regularly to maintain visual consistency, clarity, and brand compliance.

Print & Collateral Production

• Design promotional signage, including banners, A-frames, vinyl decals, and window displays. Design printed collateral, such as membership brochures, educational worksheets, summer camp guides, and event invitations.

• Manage prepress production, including preparing print-ready files, reviewing color proofs, and coordinating directly with commercial print vendors.

Advertising & Brand Stewardship

• Execute advertising campaigns across out-of-home (OOH) media, billboards, transit ads, print magazines, and localized digital ad networks.

• Serve as a brand steward, enforcing visual identity guidelines across all internal departments while upholding and evolving the museum's visual look and feel.

• Organize and maintain the museum’s digital asset management system, including photos, illustrations, logos, and finalized project archives.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

     • None


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

     • Attend monthly, quarterly and annual museum trainings and meetings, as needed

     • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

     • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

     • 3+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably within a museum, cultural institution, non-profit, or creative agency.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

     • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Experience with Premiere Pro, After Effects, or Figma is a strong plus.

     • Deep understanding of commercial print processes, environmental material specification, and web/digital asset optimization.

     • A playful, imaginative aesthetic balanced with strong organizational skills to handle multiple project deadlines simultaneously.

     • Strong verbal and written communication skills

     • Ability to maintain confidentiality


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

     • Must have flexibility in work schedule, including weekends and occasional evenings

     • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle and good driving record

     • Video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or CapCut is a plus

     • Web/digital asset management and optimization, knowledge of social media graphics/assets is a plus
