Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling & Wellness, the Associate Director supports the leadership, management, and delivery of student counseling services and wellness programming. This role includes providing direct counseling, assessment, crisis response, case management, and outreach services to NorthWest Arkansas Community College students. The Associate Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and campus departments to support student well-being and success. This role also contributes to the supervision of clinical interns and daily operations of the Counseling & Wellness Center, ensuring alignment with best practices and compliance standards. The Associate Director plays an integral role in fostering an inclusive, supportive campus environment that promotes mental health, resilience, and student achievement.
Essential Duties:
  • Provides direct clinical services, including short-term individual counseling, crisis intervention, assessment, and referrals for students
  • Assists the Director in the coordination and supervision of daily operations within the Counseling & Wellness Center
  • Supports compliance with ethical standards and federal/state regulations, including HIPAA
  • Engages in case management for students facing complex or ongoing life challenges, coordinating care with campus and community partners
  • Assists with the development and implementation of outreach programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns on topics such as mental health, stress management, and student well-being.
  • Contributes to data collection and reporting to support quality assurance and program development
  • Provides consultation to faculty and staff regarding student mental health concerns
  • Maintains accurate and confidential clinical documentation using the Center's electronic health record system (Simple Practice)
  • Provides supervision and training for counseling interns or practicum students, in coordination with the Director
  • Assists in contributing to policy and procedure development (documentation standards, clinic handbook, practicum and internship handbook)
  • Supports the Director in evaluating student needs, campus trends, and opportunities for programming that promotes emotional wellness and academic success (Co-Curricular Assessment Planning)
  • Attends professional development opportunities to stay current in counseling practices and campus mental health trends
  • Represents the Counseling & Wellness Center at college events and meetings as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals

Rate of Pay: $56,236 annualized *Higher compensation may be considered based on qualifications directly related to position

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Educational Psychology, or a related field
  • Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or have license eligibility in the State of Arkansas
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-master's clinical experience, preferably in a college or university setting
  • Experience with diverse populations and a strong commitment to inclusive, student-centered care

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment, brief counseling, and crisis response
  • Knowledge of college student development and mental health needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse student populations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical counseling standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Competency in electronic health records and data management
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience with interns or early career professionals is preferred
