What is a freelance coder?

A freelance coder is an independent professional who offers programming and software development services to clients on a contract or project basis, rather than working as a full-time employee for a single company. They may work on various tasks such as building websites, developing applications, or fixing code issues for multiple clients at a time. Freelance coders have the flexibility to choose their projects, set their own rates, and often work remotely. They are responsible for managing their own business operations, including finding clients, negotiating contracts, and handling taxes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance coder, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Coder, you need strong programming skills in relevant languages, a solid understanding of software development principles, and a portfolio showcasing completed projects. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, project management tools, and sometimes certifications in specific technologies are valuable. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are critical soft skills for managing client relationships and meeting deadlines. These skills ensure freelancers can deliver high-quality solutions independently, maintain client satisfaction, and build a sustainable career.

What is the difference between Freelance Coder vs Web Developer?

AspectFreelance CoderWeb Developer
CredentialsOften self-taught or with coding bootcampsTypically holds a degree or certification in web development or related fields

Employer & Industry UsageClients across various industries, project-specificCompanies, agencies, startups, with ongoing or project-based roles
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for freelance coding services or gig workSeeking web development expertise or employment

While both Freelance Coders and Web Developers possess coding skills, Freelance Coders typically work independently on diverse projects without long-term employment, whereas Web Developers often have specialized skills in building and maintaining websites, sometimes within a team or company setting. The choice depends on your career goals and preferred work environment.

How do freelance coders typically manage communication and collaboration with clients and other team members?

Freelance coders often work remotely, so clear and consistent communication is crucial. They usually use tools like Slack, Trello, or email to keep clients updated, track project progress, and share files. Many projects require freelancers to join virtual meetings or use version control platforms like GitHub for collaboration. Building strong relationships and setting clear expectations early on helps ensure smooth teamwork, even when working independently.

What does a freelance coder do?

A freelance coder works on software programming projects on a contract basis. Specific job duties depend on the needs of your client, but general job duties include developing software, applications, or computer systems to meet your client’s specifications. You may also be responsible for testing the software or debugging and updating existing applications. The programming languages they use vary, but coders typically specialize in one area. For example, web coders know HMTL and JavaScript, mobile coders use Java, and database freelancers use SQL. Some projects may require collaboration with other developers. Freelance coders work on a short- or long-term contract basis.

Job description

Please note: this role is hybrid and based in one of our US office locations (San Francisco, Boston or NYC). It is not eligible for remote work. Unfortunately we are unable to support work authorization (including visa transfers) at this time.

TL;DR

Lovable is looking for a Solutions Marketing Lead to own go-to-market strategy across new markets, audiences, and use cases, starting with our SMB market. This person will be building the positioning, experiments, and cross-functional playbooks that turn early signals into repeatable growth engines. This role has a direct line to how Lovable wins with everyone from solo founders to enterprise teams, at one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe.

Why Lovable?

Lovable lets anyone and everyone build software with any language. From solopreneurs to Fortune 100 teams, millions of people use Lovable to transform raw ideas into real products — fast. We are at the forefront of a foundational shift in software creation, which means you have an unprecedented opportunity to change the way the digital world works. Lovable-built applications and websites are visited hundreds of millions of times a month, and our enterprise footprint is compounding fast. And we\'re just getting started.

We\'re a small, talent-dense team building a generation-defining company from Stockholm. We value extreme ownership, high velocity, and low-ego collaboration. We seek out people who care deeply, ship fast, and are eager to make a dent in the world.

What we’re looking for

As Solutions Marketing Lead, you\'ll own the strategy for how we show up and win across a wide range of markets, audiences, and use cases, many of which we\'re still in the process of defining. The first priority market segment to focus on will be SMB. Over time you\'ll move between buyer segments fluidly, building the playbooks and messaging that turn early traction into repeatable motion from the ground up.

You will spend your time across the full arc of go-to-market work: spotting the opportunity, developing the hypothesis, designing the experiment, and synthesizing what you learn into a recommendation leadership acts on. We\'re looking for someone who comes in with a strong point of view, earns trust quickly, and drives outcomes across the organization without needing a large team behind them.

Youll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Owned a solutions marketing playbook from zero to one at a B2B SaaS or developer-focused company, not just executed against one someone else built.

  • Directly owned a large, cross-functional initiative where you were the person accountable for the outcome, not just coordinating the calendar.

  • Built positioning and messaging for more than one buyer segment at the same time and can point to how each differed and why.

  • Designed a GTM experiment, read the signal, and turned it into a recommendation that leadership acted on.

  • Marketed across multiple audiences at once while keeping a coherent brand narrative, not five disconnected campaigns that don\'t feel like the same company.

  • Positioned developer tools, no-code/low-code platforms, or AI products, and understand the nuances of speaking to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What you’ll do
  • Own the GTM strategy for new and evolving market opportunities: identify where we have potential to win, build the hypotheses, and design the experiments to validate them.

  • Go from 0 to 1 across multiple use cases, personas, and buyer segments simultaneously, developing positioning, messaging, and campaign infrastructure from scratch.

  • Lead major cross-functional initiatives spanning marketing, product, GTM, content, and community, driving alignment and shipping with urgency.

  • Develop Lovable\'s solutions positioning across individual creators, freelancers, startups, agencies, and growing teams across multiple verticals.

  • Build segment-specific GTM playbooks, including messaging frameworks, campaign strategies, PLG motions, and sales enablement, that scale across the organization.
