Job description

ARM Consultants LLC is seeking a Civil Engineer, or more specifically a Roofing/Building Envelope Engineer to join our team. This position is ideal for an engineer with experience or a strong interest in roofing, waterproofing, and existing-building envelope systems.


The Building Envelope Engineer will participate in the investigation, analysis, design, and construction administration of roofing and building-envelope projects. The position will involve a combination of field investigation, technical analysis, construction documentation, client interaction, and project management.


The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing multiple projects, and communicating technical recommendations to both technical and non-technical clients.


Responsibilities

  • Perform field investigations of existing roofing and building-envelope systems.
  • Evaluate existing conditions and identify sources of deterioration, water intrusion, and other building-envelope deficiencies.
  • Develop repair, restoration, and replacement recommendations based on existing conditions, project requirements, and client budgets.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting existing conditions, findings, recommendations, and project priorities.
  • Develop construction documents, including drawings, details, specifications, scopes of work, and bid documents.
  • Assist with roof and building-envelope design for repair and replacement projects.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other construction documentation.
  • Perform construction observations and assist with construction administration.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist clients with roof asset management, capital planning, and long-term maintenance strategies.
  • Participate in client meetings and communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly.
  • Manage multiple projects at different stages of investigation, design, bidding, and construction.
  • Assist with cost estimating, project budgeting, and development of repair/replacement programs.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior staff as appropriate.
  • Travel throughout New England for inspections, meetings, and construction-related activities.


Requirements

  • Must live local to New England.
  • 3–8+ years of relevant professional experience preferred.
  • Experience with roofing, waterproofing, building-envelope systems, or existing-building assessments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural, or related Engineering discipline is required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a distributed team.
  • Willingness to work in the field and climb ladders/access roofs as required by project conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout New England.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
