Job Description
Position Summary
The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking an Assistant Athletics Director, Broadcast Operations responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, coordination, and execution of live and recorded broadcasts for all athletic programs. This role provides departmental oversight of broadcast operations, including technical production, staffing, budgeting, and long-term planning. The Assistant AD, Broadcast Operations serves as the primary liaison with ESPN, SEC Network, SEC Network+, and other linear and digital broadcast partners, ensuring all productions meet conference, network, and institutional standards while advancing innovation and operational excellence. This position oversees a department and collaborates closely with senior athletics leadership, internal units, and external partners to deliver high-quality, compliant, and forward-thinking broadcasts across all sports.
Key Responsibilities
1. Broadcast Strategy & Leadership (20%)
• Provide strategic direction and long-term planning for all broadcast operations across athletic programs.
• Establish departmental goals, production standards, and operational policies aligned with SEC, ESPN, NCAA, and institutional expectations.
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, workflows, and industry best practices to enhance production quality and efficiency.
• Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for ESPN, SEC Network, SEC Network+, and other broadcast partners.
• Represent broadcast operations in senior leadership discussions and cross-departmental initiatives.
2. Live Event Broadcast Oversight (30%)
• Oversee execution of broadcast operations for all home athletic events across multiple sports.
• Ensure seamless coordination of setup, production, and teardown processes across venues.
• Provide high-level supervision of control room and venue-based production workflows, including audio, video, replay, graphics, and transmission.
• Ensure all broadcasts meet SEC, ESPN, NCAA, and institutional technical and editorial standards.
• Lead resolution of complex technical or operational issues during live productions.
3. Staffing, Leadership & Development (15%)
• Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and retention of full-time staff, part-time employees, graduate assistants, and student workers.
• Oversee staffing models and workforce planning to ensure coverage for all events and productions.
• Supervise direct reports and provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the broadcast team.
4. Technical Operations & Innovation (10%)
• Direct management of broadcast infrastructure, including control rooms, mobile units, and venue systems.
• Oversee equipment lifecycle planning, including procurement, maintenance, upgrades, and capital projects.
• Partner with engineering, IT, and vendors to ensure signal integrity, redundancy, and operational reliability.
• Lead implementation of new technologies and production capabilities to support evolving broadcast demands.
5. Planning, Coordination & Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%)
• Collaborate with sport administrators, facilities, event management, communications, marketing, and IT to align broadcast operations with departmental priorities.
• Lead preseason and ongoing broadcast planning, scheduling, and coordination efforts.
• Oversee transmission planning, including satellite, fiber, and streaming workflows.
• Ensure operational readiness, credentialing, and access for all broadcast partners.
6. Budget and Vendor Management (10%)
• Assist with managing broadcast-related budgets, including staffing, equipment rentals, and vendor services.
• Coordinate contracts and relationships with production vendors, freelancers, and service providers.
• Track expenses and support cost-effective production strategies without compromising quality.
7. Compliance, Risk Management and Other Duties (5%)
• Ensure adherence to NCAA, SEC, and institutional policies, including student-worker hour limitations and safety protocols.
• Maintain production documentation, reports, and post-event evaluations.
• Support emergency action plans and broadcast-related risk management procedures.
Shift
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm; Nights, Weekends, and Travel as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Experience with Broadcast Operations in College Athletics is preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000
