Job description

Our client, a creative agency known for bold, boundary-pushing design work, is seeking a Senior Visual Designer for a freelance/contract opportunity. This role calls for a designer who thrives on big, unexpected ideas and has the craft and execution skills to bring them to life - someone equally comfortable as a strategic thinker and a hands-on doer. The ideal candidate challenges briefs rather than simply answering them, brings strong storytelling instincts to both concept and design, and understands how interaction and motion principles inform great visual work.
  • This is an ongoing freelance assignment. Pay rate range: $70-$90 / hour

Responsibilities:
  • Lead ideation and execution across typography, layout, color, and composition with a high level of craft and polish
  • Push design thinking beyond the initial ask, introducing bold and unexpected creative directions
  • Translate big-picture concepts into fully realized, well-executed design work
  • Challenge creative briefs when appropriate to elevate the final output
  • Apply interaction and motion principles to design execution, not just visual layout
  • Explore multiple creative directions before narrowing in on a final approach
  • Stay attuned to emerging design trends without being driven by them
  • Engage in self-directed creative exploration with minimal oversight
  • Apply foundational UX principles and systems thinking to design decisions
  • Build prototypes as needed to test interactions and refine the user experience
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to elevate the overall creative product
  • Challenge and inspire fellow team members to think beyond conventional solutions
  • Build presentation decks with a clear, compelling narrative that balances design depth with persuasive storytelling
  • Present work directly to clients, remaining open to feedback and collaborative refinement

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong visual design craft, including typography, layout, color, and composition
  • Demonstrated ability to generate bold, original creative concepts beyond expected solutions
  • Strong conceptual and visual storytelling skills
  • Solid understanding of interaction and motion design principles and how to apply them to execution
  • Working knowledge of UX fundamentals and systems-level design thinking
  • Comfort with prototyping to test and refine interactions
  • Proven ability to work independently and drive self-directed creative exploration
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to build and deliver decks that balance design rationale with big-picture storytelling
  • Experience presenting directly to clients and incorporating feedback collaboratively
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
