About Us

The Colorado Rockies Baseball Club is embracing the climb, committed to building a championship-caliber organization on the field, in the clubhouse, and throughout our business operations. Playing at altitude presents unique competitive challenges and opportunities, and we embrace innovation, collaboration, and evidence-based practices to support elite performance.

Rooted in the traditions of Americaโ€™s pastime, we operate with integrity, service, quality, and trust while striving to create an exceptional experience for our players, staff, and fans.

ย

Position Summary

The Colorado Rockies Baseball Club is building an integrated baseball information platform that brings together scouting reports, player statistics, rosters, performance data, and other Baseball Operations information to support timely and informed decision-making.

The Senior Data Engineer will design, build, maintain, and optimize the pipelines, data models, orchestration, and cloud infrastructure that power analytics and internal applications across Baseball Operations. This role will partner closely with Baseball Systems, analysts, developers, and end users to ensure data is accurate, accessible, reliable, and scalable.

In addition to hands-on engineering responsibilities, the Senior Data Engineer will provide technical leadership by establishing best practices, improving system reliability, and mentoring other engineers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL and ELT pipelines that ingest data from external vendors, internal systems, and baseball data sources.
  • Develop and maintain cloud-based data infrastructure supporting storage, transformation, orchestration, analytics, and internal applications.
  • Model, structure, and optimize data for use by analysts, developers, researchers, and other Baseball Operations users.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production pipelines, identify root causes, resolve data quality issues, and improve reliability and performance.
  • Partner with developers, analysts, and Baseball Operations stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices related to code quality, documentation, testing, version control, observability, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and manage new baseball data sources, vendor feeds, APIs, and file-based deliveries.
  • Support data infrastructure used for analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and internal decision-support tools.
  • Mentor other engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, project support, and skill development.

Job Qualifications

  • Five or more years of data engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and demonstrated capability.
  • Significant experience building and operating reliable production data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
  • Advanced SQL and strong proficiency in Python.
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and a modern data platform (Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent).
  • Experience developing distributed data workloads with Apache Spark / PySpark.
  • Experience across data modeling, orchestration, testing, observability, and production troubleshooting.
  • Ability to guide technical decisions and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with baseball data and Baseball Operations workflows โ€” tracking, scouting, performance, player development, sports science, or biomechanics.
  • Experience with lakehouse, data warehouse, or data lake architecture, including scalable ingestion patterns and dimensional or layered data modeling.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration (Apache Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar) and pipeline monitoring, data-quality testing, and operational support.
  • Experience building data pipelines, feature datasets, or platform infrastructure for machine learning and artificial intelligence workloads.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, completion of an immersive technical program, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and their responsible use in modern engineering workflows.

ย

Work Schedule & Location

  • This role generally works standard business hours. Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed to support critical production issues, releases, or time-sensitive Baseball Operations needs.
  • This position may be based in the Denver metropolitan area or performed remotely from an approved U.S. state, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. Preference may be given to qualified candidates who can work from the Denver metro area due to the positionโ€™s need for periodic in-person collaboration.
  • Remote employees should be available during Mountain Time business hours and will travel to Denver, Spring Training, affiliate sites, or Club events as needed.

ย

Physical Job Requirements

  • This role operates in a professional office and stadium environment. Occasional exposure to crowd noise, outdoor weather conditions, and extended hours during homestands, events, or special functions may be required.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, including sitting at a desk and attending meetings.
  • Must be able to move throughout office, stadium, and event spaces to access equipment and interact with staff and vendors.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively by phone, video conference, and in person and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally, such as a laptop bag or related office materials.

ย

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary Range: $140,000 - $165,000 a year. This is a regular-status, full-time, exempt position.
  • As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
  • In addition to the base salary, the Club believes in providing a very competitive and generous compensation and benefits package for its employees. Benefits include but are not limited to Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) with employer match, generous vacation and holiday program, employee parking, employer-provided game tickets to home games, onsite fitness classes and experiences, employee discounts on merchandise, and so much more! All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and the terms of official plan documents, which may be modified or amended at any given time.

Application Process

  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis but must be received by August 13, 2026. The posting may be removed or extended at any time.
  • The estimated time to complete the recruitment process will be by September 30, 2026.
  • A note for Colorado Rockies employees: Please apply via the internal job board in UKG by following these prompts: MENU > MYSELF > MY COMPANY > VIEW OPPORTUNITIES > select the position > CONSENT > APPLY NOW
    • If you cannot access UKG, please list your most recent Manager as an Employee Reference on your application.
