What is a fractional engineer?

Fractional Engineers are experienced engineering professionals who work with companies on a part-time, contract, or project basis instead of as full-time employees. They typically provide specialized expertise, leadership, or technical guidance to organizations that may not need or cannot afford a full-time engineering leader. Fractional Engineers can help with project management, team mentorship, process optimization, or strategic planning, and are often engaged by startups or small businesses. This flexible arrangement allows companies to access high-level skills without the long-term commitment or cost of a full-time hire.

How does a fractional engineer typically integrate with established engineering teams, and what should applicants expect regarding collaboration and project ownership?

Fractional Engineers often join organizations on a part-time or project-specific basis, which means they must quickly adapt to existing team dynamics and workflows. While you may not be involved in every aspect of long-term planning, you'll frequently be tasked with leading or advising on high-impact initiatives, requiring strong communication and self-management skills. Expect to collaborate closely with full-time engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver focused solutions within set time frames. Being proactive in clarifying expectations and regularly updating the team helps ensure smooth integration and successful project outcomes.

Job description

Overview
Exec is recruiting fractional CROs and fractional VPs of Sales into our Solutions Partner program.
Your value as a fractional leader comes down to how fast you can diagnose what's broken and how effectively you can shift behavior with a fraction of full-time presence. Exec offers leverage on both. Call scoring shows you what's actually happening on your client's calls in the first week, so your diagnosis starts from evidence instead of ride-alongs and anecdotes. When you roll out a new process or playbook, AI roleplays let every rep practice the new motion until it sticks, without you personally running each session. You see skill movement in the dashboards, your client sees it too, and you earn a revenue share when they adopt the platform.
About this role
This is a revenue-share partnership rather than a salaried or hourly position. Exec pays partners commissions and referral fees on the business they bring, and partners charge their own clients directly for their fractional work. If you are looking for W-2 employment or guaranteed income, this program will not be a fit. If you have active client engagements and want more leverage inside them, read on.
About Exec
About Exec. Exec is an AI-powered training platform used by revenue teams to practice and improve the conversations that drive their business. The platform combines AI roleplays, call scoring, structured programs, courses, and coaching.
Requirements
  • Active client engagements as a fractional CRO or fractional VP of Sales
  • A track record building revenue engines companies run after you leave
  • Seven or more years leading revenue organizations
  • Comfort recommending and implementing software as part of your engagements
  • Bonus points for an existing audience through a newsletter, LinkedIn following, community, or podcast

Benefits
  • 30% of everything a client pays Exec for their first twelve months when they sign up through your partner link
  • 15% of first-year subscription fees on registered sales-led deals, even when our sales team runs the entire process, with ninety-day deal protection and extensions for active deals
  • Your services revenue stays yours. Bundle Exec into your fractional engagements, administer client workspaces, and invoice clients directly. Exec takes no cut of your advisory fees
  • A diagnostic instrument. Call scoring against your own quality standards shows you where each rep and the whole motion is breaking down, from day one of the engagement
  • Training leverage. New processes, playbooks, and talk tracks become roleplays every rep practices, so behavior change happens without you running each session
  • Skill and score dashboards you and the CEO review together, so your impact shows up in data rather than anecdotes
  • A listing in the Exec partner directory, with inquiries routed to you
  • Co-marketing with our team, including joint content, webinars, and launches
  • Early access to new platform capabilities
  • No fees, no quotas, no exclusivity. You can keep working with other platforms
