What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frac sand owner operator?

To thrive as a Frac Sand Owner Operator, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), experience with heavy truck operation, and a strong understanding of DOT regulations. Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs), pneumatic trailers, and basic truck maintenance tools is typically required. Reliability, time management, and strong communication skills help ensure timely deliveries and coordination with dispatchers and clients. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in the demanding oilfield logistics sector.

What is a frac sand owner operator?

As a frac sand owner operator, your job is to haul frac sand from a production facility to a mining site. Frac sand is a type of high-purity quartz sand used in the hydraulic fracturing (fracking) process to extract petroleum fluids like oil and natural gas. The fracking process requires an enormous amount of frac sand, so the industry has a considerable need for trucks large enough to haul frac sand in bulk and drivers willing to put in long hours to transport it. Frac sand is typically distributed by train before being loaded onto trucks, so frac sand owner operators usually spend time driving between a train depot and a dig site.

Both roles require a CDL and industry-specific knowledge, but owner operators have more independence and business responsibilities.

What are some common challenges frac sand owner operators face on the job, and how can they be managed?

Frac Sand Owner Operators often encounter challenges such as long hours on the road, navigating remote or rural job sites, and managing equipment maintenance. Time management and effective communication with dispatchers are key to handling tight delivery schedules. Staying proactive with vehicle upkeep and adhering to safety protocols helps minimize downtime and ensures smooth operations. Building strong relationships with site personnel can also facilitate efficient loading and unloading processes.

Hardwoods Installer & Sand and Refinisher

Floor Coverings International

Armada, MI โ€ข On-site

Contractor

Posted 5 days ago

Job description

We're growing - and looking to add a hardwood installer and a hardwood refinisher to our subcontractor team. Keeping up with demand and executing at a high level matters to us, so we're looking for people who take real pride in the work, not just get it done.
What we're looking for:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in hardwood installation or sand & refinish work
  • A sharp eye for detail - tight seams, clean transitions, consistent finish
  • Understanding of subfloor prep, moisture considerations, and species-specific handling
  • Reliable, professional on-site presence - you're representing our name in someone's home
  • Own tools and transportation to job sites in Shelby Twp, Sterling Heights, Macomb, Utica, and Washington Twp

The work:
  • Jobs typically run 9am-5pm or until job completion, whichever comes first (earlier starts fine if you and the customer both prefer it)
  • Subcontractor role - you'll be assigned jobs as they come in, with the goal of keeping a few solid installers busy consistently rather than rotating through a big list
  • Mix of new hardwood installation and sand-and-finish/refinish projects

Requirements to be considered:
  • Proof of past work (photos or references)
  • Certificate of insurance - insured applicants only
  • We check references with past customers and may visit past job sites before bringing someone on

What we offer:
  • Steady, consistent work for the right fit - not a one-off gig
  • Jobs sourced and scheduled for you - no chasing leads
  • A team that values craftsmanship and treats installers like partners, not just labor

To apply: Call 586-300-3707 or email with your experience and any photos of past work.
