Job Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for delivering precise and competitive cost estimates for CNC machined parts and assemblies. This position requires a deep understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling. The Senior Estimator works closely with engineering, programming, production, and procurement teams to ensure manufacturability, sourcing efficiency, and accuracy in every quote.

  • Cost Estimation & Bid Preparation:
    • Develop detailed cost estimates for CNC projects, accounting for materials, labor, machining time, tooling, and setups for milling, turning, and multi-tasking machines.
    • Prepare competitive bids and proposals that align with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Technical Analysis:
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, including GD&T, and assess quality control requirements.
    • Evaluate machining practices such as material removal rates, material types, tooling, and setups.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work with production, engineering, quality, and procurement teams to optimize manufacturability, supplier sourcing, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
    • Provide feedback to the quoting and process planning teams to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Market & Cost Monitoring:
    • Stay current on market trends, material costs, and evolving CNC machining technologies to ensure competitive estimates.
  • Time Management & Organization:
    • Manage multiple concurrent quote requests, ensuring timely delivery of accurate estimates.
    • Maintain organized records of quotes, revisions, and supporting documentation for easy reference and audit readiness.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in CNC machining estimation within a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T specifications.
  • Deep understanding of machining practices, including material removal rates, tooling, and setups for milling, turning, and multi-tasking CNC machines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities to handle competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation software and CAD/CAM tools.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards such as AS9100.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and quoting platforms.
  • Understanding of process optimization and lean manufacturing principles.
