The RF Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional architecture and procurement teams to select major RF components, drive product innovation, and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery. In addition to deep technical ownership of RF and hardware design, this position carries leadership responsibilities including resource planning, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to departmental budgeting, hiring, and performance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of wireless communication devices from concept through production.
  • Contribute to overall system architecture by collaborating with systems and solutions architecture teams that utilize RF communication devices.
  • Work with wireless communications platform architects and global procurement teams to evaluate and select major components used in RF devices.
  • Allocate resources effectively across engineering teams to ensure project goals and milestones are met.
  • Take responsibility for subordinate teams’ on-time delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Contribute to department budgeting by providing accurate technical input and resource planning insights.
  • Participate directly in the hiring process through technical interviews and assessment of team fit.
  • Contribute to the performance appraisal process, supporting performance improvement plans and employee recognition initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership in design, development, documentation, bench testing, and compliance testing for RF and hardware solutions.
  • Develop specifications including functional requirements, detailed design documents, and test procedures as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify technical areas for improvement and prepare detailed business cases for enhancements or new technology opportunities.
  • Provide support for sustaining products, troubleshooting and resolving issues with high-quality, well-documented outputs.
  • Produce detailed and accurate estimates for development efforts, timelines, and resource needs.
  • Lead component and solution-level design, development, documentation, and validation activities.
  • Work within agile development teams, collaborating with cross-discipline architecture groups to develop hardware and software components for smart grid solutions.
  • Participate in the recruitment, development, and mentoring of junior engineers, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
  • Lead functional area-specific continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, quality, and efficiency.
  • Drive innovative technology and solution development and oversee validation activities for new RF and hardware concepts.

Essential Skills
