What is the difference between Forming vs Machining?

AspectFormingMachining
Primary ProcessShaping materials through deformation (e.g., forging, stamping)Removing material to shape parts (e.g., milling, turning)
Required CertificationsOften includes safety and equipment operation certificationsRequires machining and tool operation certifications
Work EnvironmentFactories with heavy machinery, often in large-scale productionMachine shops, manufacturing facilities with precision equipment
Industry UsageCommon in automotive, aerospace, and heavy industryUsed across manufacturing, aerospace, and tooling industries

Forming involves shaping materials through deformation processes like forging or stamping, while machining removes material to create precise parts. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but differ in techniques, equipment, and applications.
