What is the difference between Forming vs Machining?

AspectFormingMachining
Primary ProcessShaping materials through deformation (e.g., forging, stamping)Removing material to shape parts (e.g., milling, turning)
Required CertificationsOften includes safety and equipment operation certificationsRequires machining and tool operation certifications
Work EnvironmentFactories with heavy machinery, often in large-scale productionMachine shops, manufacturing facilities with precision equipment
Industry UsageCommon in automotive, aerospace, and heavy industryUsed across manufacturing, aerospace, and tooling industries

Forming involves shaping materials through deformation processes like forging or stamping, while machining removes material to create precise parts. Both roles are essential in manufacturing but differ in techniques, equipment, and applications.

Job description

Overview
We're hiring Production Fabricator Technicians for our precision manufacturing operation supporting the rapidly growing semiconductor industry.
In this role, you'll fabricate precision metal tubing into finished shapes by combining machine operation with careful hands-on forming work. Rather than standing at a single station all day, you'll rotate between several fabrication stations-including CNC bending equipment, manual forming, tack welding, inspection, and finishing-as you build the skills to support the entire department.
We're continuing to invest in both our business and our people. Cross-training is a core part of this role, giving you the opportunity to master multiple fabrication processes while creating more variety throughout your workday. If you enjoy detailed hands-on work, take pride in craftsmanship, and appreciate quality over speed, you'll fit in well here.
Why Join Us
  • Cross Training: Learn multiple fabrication stations throughout the department.
  • Precision Work: Build components for the semiconductor industry.
  • Consistent Overtime: Regular overtime opportunities available.

Compensation
  • $20.00/hour ($17.50 base wage + 15% shift differential)
  • Regular overtime opportunities available throughout the year.

Hiring on 2nd Shift
  • 2nd Shift: Monday - Thursday

Responsibilities
  • Fixture Setup: Prepare forming and bending fixtures for production.
  • Tube Forming: Shape precision tubing using fixtures and machines.
  • Machine Operation: Operate bending equipment and fabrication stations.
  • Part Inspection: Compare finished parts against prints and templates.
  • Quality Checks: Verify dimensions using measuring equipment.
  • Material Handling: Move completed parts between production areas.
  • Documentation: Complete production and inspection records accurately.
